Need advice on this used 340i

This one

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...ckType=listing

I have never owned a BMW. I haven't even driven a F30 340i, I have driven a 330i once as a test drive.

So its the color I want, motor I want and mileage I can afford. I've been looking at 30k budget. Would slap in the MMI for AA/Carplay.

My biggest concern is a previous tune. Knowing how desirable these motors are I asked the salesman over the phone if it had been tuned. He found that it was in fact tuned at trade in but there was a note to reset to factory (this was all at trade in, carfax shows dealer took possession 8/13). He couldn't verify what the tune was and if it was in fact disabled/reset and hes trying to get more info from the service manager. Looks like the car has been routinely serviced at the same family of dealerships.

Again I know nothing but having a tune has to wear some parts prematurely. Am I worrying over nothing? Should I be concerned? Could it be a GOOD thing and I'm getting added performance for free? How can I tell what has been tuned and how much added HP is there? I'm not sure how to feel about this. I have to assume there are no aftermarket parts as that has to be disclosed at trade in, they would notice it during appraisal and should be documented.

Other than this it looks to have been serviced regularly(oil)at the same dealership. The 30k maintenance was performed. I'm trying to get them to throw in the 60k service upon purchase if I go for it as its at 60k mi.

Carfax looks good to me

Its Msport 337 but I'm not sure what that entails. The other msport 2017 340i's Ive seen have different wheels/grille/exhaust. Im not sure if the ad is correct listing all the features, it says LED tails but not led headlights? On an msport? Would be great to get some clarity here. Is there anything else I should be looking for? Is the msport suspension harsh? I want it most for fun but Id also like a ride quality better than my 2018 mazda 3 hatch. I'm not sure what else to look out for.

Dealer is 2 hours away so If I make a trip I would want to get a deal done. Wondering if I should try to testdrive one nearby first. Of course I SHOULD but I dont think I'll have an issue with the way it drives according to everyone else. I will not buy it online sight unseen. Let me know what you guys think about everything and the price. I dont want to go in uneducated. Looking to possibly go tomorrow or Monday so please dont steal it if you're in the area.

thanks and I hope to be a legit member soon!

Man! I do encourage you to get a 340i M Sport. But, for me that price is too high for those miles. I’m not 100% certain of the market price for a 2017 with 60k miles, so it’s possible the price is more reasonable than it seems to me right off the bat.

I bought a 2018 CPO 340i M Sport RWD with about 32k miles in April 2021 for $32,444. I do realize the market is different today. My car has adaptive led headlights and the camera/parking package. It also has the 704 Sport suspension with staggered tires front and rear.

That car is an M Sport. It does have led headlights, but they are not adaptive. Being an xDrive it would only have a sport suspension if it had the M Adaptive suspension and it doesn’t have that, so it has the standard suspension, which is actually raised by 10mm because of the xDrive. That also means it has a square wheel/tire setup with all season 225/40 18s all around.

With 60k miles, it's 3k-5k overpriced even in this crazy market. But if you are desperate, go for it.

Seems right inline with anything I find within 300 miles.

The 340I is a great choice for a BMW. It will spoil you! The Estoril Blue is a pretty color that is specific to the M-Sport. Although the price seems high, the used car market is stratospheric although used car prices are coming down from their spring highs. This specific 340I has some nice options as the Harmon Kardon sound system, heated seats and steering wheel, if it has keyless, that is a must have option too. This seems reasonably loaded as the 340I comes standard with many standard features that a 328I has as options. This one does not have the M-Sport brakes (this is the blue front and rear calipers), it has standard 18" wheels (19" are optional), standard lights (not sure if LED was an option for 2017), and lane assist is not on this one. A big plus is the fact that the BMW dealer has the car on their lot, BMW dealers have a reputation, and they usually auction off the models in less-than-ideal condition. My son in law waited three months for a manual 340I in Estoril Blue, it is a rarer color. Yark seems to price their cars to move quick, good luck.

Car looks sharp and is nicely loaded with:

Heated steering wheel
Reverse camera
Alarm system
Comfort access

Some years ago, I bought an E90 335i with JB4 tune. The car had 135k miles and I didn't have any trouble with it. GL with your decision !

If you like it, jump on it. It's a great car! This is a crazy used car market anyway so get it if it works for you.

I like the fact this owner did almost nothing to this car in appearance.
