M Sport F30 get more cooling?

While I was looking up radiators and fan parts on www.realoem.com for the limp mode discussion, I stumbled across something that I was not aware of.

It seems like M-sports get oil coolers with coolant pumps. The

"For vehicles with M Sports package P337A=Yes 01 Engine oil cooler "

The other oil coolers listed for non M-sport packages are much simpler and don't have a coolant pump. The pix below show the cooler for the M sport has way more parts, including the electric pump.

Additionally, it looks like there is an auxiliary radiator in the M-sport wheel housing that no other model gets

For vehicles with M Sports package P337A=Yes 01 Additional radiator

That, I didn't know. Am I missing something?

When I look at the front, it looks like the M-sport doesn't have foglamps at all. And that there is less front end ground clearance.

Interesting... I hope this doesn't turn into an (e90 HPFP) Msport only problem though...

Saw in one of the member post, and visually saw the extra radiator, as well as confirmed via ETK of the existence of an additional radiator on the side... visually, it look more pleasing than just having an oil cooler on one side, and a fog cover on the other side.

I believe I'm experiencing limp mode symptoms and I'm an M-sport :/.

wouldn't this be a positive thing for cooling? And you'd expect less heat related issues, no?

You do a good job of showing the exact difference between regular and M-Sport, but it was public knowledge that the M-Sport had better cooling. It was discussed at length before on the forums. Usually this comes up whenever people ask why there is no fog lights for the US-Spec M-Sport model. BMW's official answer is that because some areas of the US have extremely hot weather, that they had to remove the fog lights so that the additional radiators get more air up front.

We have extremely hot weather in Australia, yet my car has fog lights fitted. Not that I use them. Colour difference between halogen & Bi-Xenon are extreme and having the fog lights on with the main headlights is plain wrong.

Thinking about changing the fogs over to match the headlights' colour.

So, I wonder if my M-Sport has the extra radiators????? (no need to answer)

I know I'm not authorized to answer this, but, like I said this was an official stance from BMW, I didn't say it made sense. The real reason is somewhere else, probably profits or regulation.

Isn't the hot weather in Australia concentrated in the middle of the country where nobody lives anyway?

Lots of Australia can get very hot, Tasmania is perhaps an exception.

I thought that cars sold in other countries have higher sales prices and stronger currency. When bringing the car to the US they wanted to keep the package cost down. The cooling reply is BS from marketing because the real reason would piss people off to hear they were being short changed.

That is my hypothesis

The number of people who live in very hot areas of the United States and/or would buy a 3 series dwarfs the amount of people who live in very hot areas in Australia and would buy a 3 series, and it's not even close. It might have made sense to make the tweaks for the United States but not Australia as a result.

See above. Barely anyone lives in the areas of Australia that truly get what I call hot. I live in a city of over 4,000,000 people where we can go an entire month straight with temperatures between 43 and 46 degrees Celsius. (110-115 for us Americans).

Someone in New Jersey like yourself wouldn't appreciate it as much, but living in Arizona, I am VERY thankful our cars don't have fog lights. Airflow/cooling was a big problem for me with my E92 335i in the Arizona summers, and fog lights are absolutely worthless out here.

All well and good, but I really do not think the fog lights cause a relevant decrease in airflow/cooling.

I am sure my Msport has oil coolers on both the left and the right inside the bumpers.

Its probably where you could drive fastest ? Can't remember how good the roads were when I was there. Plus eco pro would be useful as you don't want to be stuck without gas between pumps!

Hmmm. So why do the ultra hot middle eastern countries get fogs with their F30 M-Sport? And is it ok for Australia to get less than 'perfect' F30 M-Sports compared to USA, because that's what it seems to be, according to your post.

What, BMW don't have enough engineering brain power to include fogs for USA cars, despite the weather????? No, I think that your cars being the cheapest on the planet come with some compromises. Not at all about hot climates & 'tweaks'. More about $$$ & 'tweaks'.

The extra cooling is because there's a quite high likelihood that one of these cars will end up on a track here in the US. BMWNA recognizes this and has taken steps to make sure the car is up to the task. It's not about "short changing" us. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to pop plastic fog lights in the bumper like the rest of the world than it is to add extra cooling capacity in a single market. That argument is nothing short of idiotic.

Then I guess leather seats provide better cooling than the Alcantra seats so US don`t get them with the M-sport.

The marketing talk by BMW re foglights are a load of bull. Wht determines whether u have additional cooling is whether ur car is "hot climate version" (option S823A). I know that package is fitted to cars in SE Asia. Also u'll have additional cooling when u order trailer hitch as factory option.
The effect of foglights is minimal if u have S823A, & it's equally demanding to drive at Vmax on German Autobahn during summer cos European summers nowadays are scorching (Germany doesn't get S823A).
