So as of now 21 of the 25 people facing this issue still have not managed to get this noise fixed. Is it because you have not yet taken this issue to the dealer or is it because they could not fix the issue?

Rallybool: didn't you take yours for service? What's the outcome? My noise is rare enough that I didn't bother taking it in yet.

Ok, I got my car back today and I drove it for several miles and could not hear the rattle.

As per tech service notes:
The rattle was in the dash area. Evaporator was rubbing inside the heater box causing a vibration noise traveling up through the dash. Modified the evaporator by adding felt tape and also around the inlet and outlet pipes. Also the outside of the heater box had to be modified where it was rubbing in spots on the firewall.

It may be too soon to rejoice, but initial impressions are what I was hoping for

I just listened to the 2 videos from the posted links and I've not experienced that rattle in my '13 335i SL, if I had it would be at the dealer until they got it resolved as that would really irritate me.

Please keep us informed and thanks for the update. Sure hope this is the fix for you. Sounds more complicated than something on the exterior of car, but it would be comforting knowing that the source of the noise has been identified.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. For me it started after around 600 Km, and it only happens while accelerating in relatively low speeds (say from 40 to 80 km/h). The sound lasts for 1-2 seconds and goes away until same conditions happen again.
Turning off the A/C seems to do the trick, so I guess it has to do something with the unit, as also described by others here...

http://www.4-seriesforums.com/6-bmw-...dashboard.html

This is certainly ruining my driving pleasure, not to mention not being able to enjoy the HK system, as I'm always looking for that terrible noise...

Rattle Fix

Tomerk, see this post, should fix the problem. And certainly spread the word to the 4series forum you are on.

A permanent Fix for the 335i/435i 2500 RPM Rattle/Buzzing/Whirring Noise? http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=949816

Wow! Great news, thanks!
Now all I have to do is convince BMW IL that there is a problem...
I'll keep you posted as soon as I have some news.

Rattle noise is GONE

My new 335i had the very same rattle on acceleration. After way too many trips to BMW service, they actually listened to us and read the posts on this site. There is a kit that is sold by BMW, with a weight that is installed on the a/c hose.

Promise, noise is gone... and thankfully so, as we were at wit's end. If you need the exact kit, post back.

Reviving an old thread.

335i same rattle as the video. Not too annoying as I rarely use the A/C in SOCAL and most times it is minor enough that I can ignore. I thought it was the A/C hose. Dealer installed the house weight, shop foreman still hears noise. Took part of the dash partially apart, and it is the heater box rubbing against the evaporator.

Thus far the dealership has done a great job with the car and all its issues. I accredit it to the quality of character of the shop foreman and the service team. Guys are excellent, particularly the foreman from what I have seen dealing with him. Other dealerships would have told me to pack sand.

There have been a few threads on this rattle that is so difficult to fix.

Here are some other threads with similar videos:

If you have any other thread regarding the same rattle, please post it here.

Trying to get a poll to see how many people have had this rattle.

EDIT: Damn!... I forgot to add the AC criteria to the poll... and now I cannot edit the poll options.
Have you had the A/C line damper TSB done? It's a weight they install on the line that quells an inherent vibration noise from that source at around 2500 rpm

It's SIB 64 01 14. See link: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=949816

I got it done 2 weeks back and not once have I heard the rattling sound. I wanted to give it a few more weeks before I rejoice but I think this is it.

Finally after 3 years of car ownership I can actually enjoy the car whole heartedly.
