USED Cars: Lower millage w/o warranty or higher millage with..

based on limited knowledge of car's engines and such I'm seeking the forum's help!

would it be smarter to buy a car with less millage (let's say.. a 335i with..50-60K miles) that is out of warranty or buy a 335i with 90K-100K miles but has powertrain warranty (engine, transmission).

i'm not talking about the 335i specifically so no need to get specific about oil coolers or n54/n55 talk, i'm just speaking about bmws in general

in terms of price let's assume the total comes out to be the same (the lower millage car is priced higher but the price events out with the 3rd party warranty purchased on the higher millage car)

let me know what you think!

thanks

Property taxes are tricky things. But even in CA I wouldn't think millage would be a deciding factor in buying a car.

Depends on how much you drive, what's your annual mileage?

Depends on the service records on said vehicles and PPI's.

I'd be hesitant to buy a BMW with only a powertrain warranty. There are many other components that will break and will end up costing you quite a bit of dosh.

I'd probably go for the lower mileage one. I'd make sure to get a PPI done and have service records. There's a ton of parts on cars that can break that aren't powertrain related.

Depends on the service record and what the car is itself. Anything forced induction, I would probably see what options are out there mileage and price wise, then figure in a 3rd party warranty, just because I personally don't have much hands on with forced induction outside of a direct shot nitrous system on a 4 honda 4 cyclinder, lol.

I bought my 128i with 50k, had CPO warranty, but that ran out fast when I racked up miles. I didn't get another warranty, which may have helped because I needed some work done that I couldn't in the apartment parking lot that was about $1,300 from the BMW dealership. Haven't had any problems since, *knock on wood*.
