Bad that your ride needs to be replaced, but good that the dealer is willing to replace the car at no cost to you.

Someone else posted that their car needs to be replaced for the same reason.

Holy Mackerel...our entire car has been recalled!

It would be helpful if they were to set up a link on their site where you can input your VIN and it would tell you whether or not your car is affected by this.

has anyone been contacted by the dealer and bmw canada to arrange for this recall resolution ?

Is bmw canada going to replace the car with identical or closest spec (incl options) at no cost to the owner or what (buyback at full value paid) ?

How is bmw canada handles the aftermarket upgrades done to the car ? such as tint and/or paint protection film, etc.

thanks

I was in the dealership today when they brought in a green M4 that was going to be crunched. Quite sad to see such unique cars being destroyed.

BMW Canada has instructed their dealers to contact affected car owners directly. They will replace the car with a new car to the same spec or better. Existing financing will be honoured and applied to the replacement vehicle I understand. No cash buy outs as this is will end up being an insurance claim against CN.

I'm not sure if they have said how they will deal with aftermarket modifications. Cash pay out would be my bet.

Nothing from Benz, Jaguar, Land Rover or others. Only BMW has stepped up so far.

They are calling everyone one by one.

My sales guy has said that bmw canada won't cover my tint costs since I got them done third party. Upsetting. But he says he will try to figure out how to help me through the dealership. We will see....

My 550 is being fully replaced with a 2016 model at no cost to me. Car will be here in October. It has been ordered by my dealer.

Did they offer you the exact options, or better?

And how's the finance/payment/incentives going to work in this case?

here is the situation of my buddy now going thru the hassle of ordering the replacement.

-He was financing a MY2015 X1 @ 1.9% interest (now more than 1/2 year into the term). Now, bmw canada/dealer says the new MY2016 x1 will have much higher interest rate which he will be forced to go into and will wind up paying lot more $ in the end.
-based on this situation, he needs time to evaluate and has not yet ordered the replacement car and will seek some sort of equivalent compensation, such as added option package or extended factory warranty.
-total amount paid into his MY2015 loan will be treated as one downpayment towards the replacement car loan but with a much higher interest rate. (bmw canada needs to discharge the orig loan first because it has lien on the MY2015 x1 and starts a new loan with new lien on the MY2016X1)

Are you guys facing the same or similar problems ?

I'm actually in the same situation, I am now wondering what will happen if I tell them that I don't want a new loan, get my money back and shop for a better deal on remaining 3 series or current A4 offering.

The car has already been ordered without having the chance to negotiate anything, or even order a different color or packages.

Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome!

Which dealership are you dealing with?

I am surprised they just ordered a new one for you without asking you beforehand.

dealer has been instructed of not giving any $ back at all. It means you will be forced to take their current term of offering (whatever the interest rate it is). Right now, my buddy is going back to the dealer in the next few days to iron out the compensation.

I prefer to not provide much specific about the dealer until things are settled, I still have hope to get this resolved but it is not as easy as I had hoped for, BMW still not providing '16 msrp/rates/residuals doesn't help the dealer either...

I still don't have my car but I was told that if I get a 2015 then I keep my original finance rate which is 0.9%

should you not get the MY2016 instead ? What is your reason of getting a 1 year old model. It would have been depreciated by one year already which in turn, you will lose $

good point. I didn't think about that.

Basically I bought the car in June for the end of 2015 sale and really good 0.9% finance rate.

They will give me a better spec'd out model new 2015 with no additionally cost to me at same 0.9% rate. I asked about 2016 they said that if I want one I'll have to go with new 2016 finance rates. So basically my decision came to saving the interest and keeping my already negotiated price.

My buddy got the call from dealer, he went in and no inspection done while there. Dealer sat down with him and discussed the buyback and ordering new car

From what I was told, the inspection is only to see if:

1. You can continue to drive until your new replacement car arrives.

2. Your car is not safe, and they will suspend it right away and give you a loaner for the time being until new replacement car arrives.

Bottom line: If your delivery was around late Feb or March 2015 - Check on BMW Canada website with your VIN to see if there is a recall code. If there is, your car 100% needs to be replaced regardless if you received a call or not. (or just the matter of fact that your dealership hasn't called you yet)
