The noise is on and off. But that should never happen right?

It's not normal. Not exactly sure what it is. If this was an N54 I'd say boost solenoid.

I was talking to a friend about this, and he said it might be a vacuum leak. He also said that it would throw a check engine light. Im just gonna take it to the dealer since i have an oil change due soon.

Nope that is the cooling fan switch and relay and shroud issue. When you hear that more likely your car is experiencing a limp mode and won't rev past 2500rpm. It's very very common on M sport cars due to an extra radiator. Shut the car off and it clears it's self (yes very annoying) and take it to a dealer and tell them them there is a TSB for it. It's a very common issue on the f30 n55 M sport (only)

They fixed mine about 4 months ago and I haven't had an issue since. Although the fan still tends to sound louder sometimes but nothing like that and no limp mode. So far so good. Keep us posted.

But my car is a luxury line, not an M Sport. The sound goes away after I tap the gas but if I tap the gas again it comes back

at the first 6 seconds into the video, you see that black plastic unit? That's the waste-gate solenoid. Easy to test. Unplug the power (metal clip), or as you did - rev the engine, sound should go away. Symptom: my car hesitates on acceleration, I have to give it more gas for it to go.

Replace it and you should be good. Part costs about $113. Definitely a warranty item that dealer can replace for you. 10 minutes if you do it yourself.

Schedule an early visit to the dealership before your oil change dont wait on the issue to get worse.
Trust me, and make sure you bring that video in and you can duplicate because if they cant duplicate they won't do anything if they don't see any fault codes either.

Good luck

Happened to me and my car was originally a sport line car. The whole theory that it only happens to M Sports is false. Take the car to the dealership, they'll replace the fan shroud and you'll be good to go. That's what happened with me

Oh wow, that's definitely a new one for me. Keep us posted after the dealer visit and what they find.

I got the car back today and it turns out it was this part that was causing the problem. The care runs so much better after it was replaced
