Need help choosing options, placing F30 order very soon

Hi bimmerpost community,

Seems like we have all the pricing available and its time to pick out the options!

Here is what I've configured so far. I really wanted to know what the "true" difference is between 328i and 335i as far as pricing is concerned. This is not easy to evaluate, because the 335i has a bunch of options that are standard and would need to pay extra for those options in 328i to match with 335i.

Code:
					328i 335i
Base Price $34,900 $42,400
Metallic Color - B39 $550 $550
Sport Package - ZSL $2,500 $1,700
Premium Package - ZPP $3,600 $1,900
Premium Sound Package -ZPS $950 $950
Xenon Headlights - 522 $900 $0
Variable Sports Steering - 2VL $300 $300

Total $43,700 $47,800
EU Delivery -$2,395 -$2,920
Tax (8.9%, Arizona sucks) $3,889 $4,254
Grand Total $47,589 $52,054
Grand Total (ED) $45,194 $49,134
So, the true difference between 328i and 335i with exactly same configuration is about ~$4,100.

Questions:
- How good is the HK sound system? Any first hand opinions?
- How is the variable steering? worth $300?
- In the full ordering information PDF, it says that adaptive xenon headlights is standard in 335i. For, 328i I've added Xenon headlights for $900 - does this include adaptive headlights? There is no option to order "adaptive headlights" for 328i. Not sure if ordering Xenon headlights for $900 would include adaptive headlight capability. Btw, does this mean that the headlights actually move to illuminate the road while turning? what about the automatic high beams?

Those numbers look good. The upgraded sounds system will probably be pretty good.
I too am deciding on variable steering. The xenons are standard on 335, optional on 328 but you must order premium with 328 to get xenons(which you do, so your good)

My car will be ver simlar except i am not getting premium, xenons, or the steering. The sportline will be nice. The xenons are adaptive.

Thanks Justin.

I just test drove 135i with manual tranny and it was amazing. I haven't driven a manual like this before. The clutch was buttery smooth but at the same time precise. Fast as hell with 300hp on a light car. And ohh...the noise it made. The six banger exhaust was thunderous.

Has anyone seen leatherette? Is the leather option really worth $1450? I am debating whether I should get leather seats or get navigation with HUD for $2500. I really like the idea of a bigger screen that shows the torque/hp output. HUD would be a bonus.

Yup, you can see I am struggling with the budget here..

Im in the same boat...im planning on going with the red leather for 1450...but you make a good point about the navi and HUD for 2500...thats a tough one. Th HUD is badass, but i would never use the nav, the power output sounds cool. But i am really on a budget lol, and didnt want to pass 40K. So i am hoping the dealer takes off $1100.

Some people say they like the leatherette...i sweat a lot lol, so i will prob just stick with the dakota leather(have had it in several of my e90's.

The base 6.5" doesn't show power output numbers?

I totally agree with you. I am NEVER going to use the built in navigation. With smart phones these days, who would want to bother with built-in clunky navigation? Although, it'd be nice to have the turn-by-turn information on the HUD. I may use it for long trips, but seriously - its a pain in the ass to type in the address with iDrive knob while I am changing gears and weaving through traffic.

Good information on the leather - I sweat a ton as well. Moreover, the weather in Phoenix is terrible in the summer, 105-110 average temperatures in July/August!

The base 6.5" doesn't show the power output numbers AFAIK. I am going to have to double check the first press release.

Are you planning on going for the EU delivery option?

I think you'll find that leatherette owners are on the whole very happy with it. It looks and feels decent and holds up EXTREMELY well. My 06 e90's leatherette basically looks like the day I got it.

And it's super easy to clean and maintain. Consider it seriously if you're trying to keep the budget down.

No, i will be ordering at the dealer next week and hoping it gets here ASAP...still have a few decisions to make. But after seeing the high-gloss black interior trim instead of the red paint stripe, high gloss for sure, the black looks much nicer than the red imo. Also, the high-gloss black trim outside along the windows.(instead of brushed aluminum)

I actually would have preferred the e90 setup of dedicated radio display no idrive. I had an e60 no nav just idrive and it was a pain in the ass.

Are you planning to get the solid black plastic trim or the aluminum with the black bottom edge? I agree the red stripe looks cheap but I think the aluminum with black stripe would be far better looking than the solid (no aluminum) black plastic.

That solid black plastic looks good in photos but I think it would look too cheap in person. I think the aluminum/black stripe would be the best choice on the 328/Sport. Of course my main preference would be wood trim if it were available.

Aluminum/black strip is the best looking by far. Thats the one i am going with. I think it look super clean and nice. I usually always prefer wood over a faux metal. But that one pic i found with the sportline, aluminum/black strip sold me on it.

Thanks for the input.

Check out the UK Configurator website: Link

Here are a few screenshots comparing the trim finishes.

Thanks!!! That helps, because i am getting manual. Do they have a pic of aluminum/black dash and red leather interior?

Also, check out this pic, it's what sold the aluminum/high gloss black for me.

The HK sound system is quite good. I wouldn't, all the same, recommend getting it; however, because everyone I know that has it has blown their speakers. I'm guessing BMW don't put in speakers that can handle the power the amp produces and they crank it too loud. On the other hand, if you don't really push the volume, the regular radio is fine, but if that's what you want to do, then doing it and blowing a speaker is hardly a good thing either.

Interesting...my 07 and 08 335i had the premium sound system and they sounded good. Have a my2009 and my2010, and 328 and somewhere along the lines they upgraded the base radio. But having never heard the base F30 stereo, if it sucks i would be pissed for not spending the 1000, i have blown speakers before and the dealer gladly replaces them(tho it is a pain in the ass to have to go there) hopefully the HK system is improved.

I like the gray leather with silver/black trim.
In F30 it is combo of gray + black rather than the monochrome gray in E90.

I also grabbed screenshots of red leather with silver/black trim that justinnum1 asked about.

Cool!

I am going to hold out for M-Sport.

I think the Aluminium Hexagon trim option will look great and hope the blue trim strip can be replaced with black.

Not sure what leather options they will have, but I hope at least the gray is available. I would prefer Alcantra - really wish BMWUSA would make an exception for M-Sport.

Sounds nice. I am currently without a car, so waiting 6moths would be impossible for me. But the msport looks really nice.

Seems as though im in minority here but I really like the liquid blue metallic in sport version. However I do not like the grey interior at all. Do you think the black with red or red with black would go with this color?

It is really a shame you can’t just go without the pin striping on the sport version.
