I could not agree with you more. They belong in the middle. I don't know why they moved them.

Ew, I don't like how the dashboard just "ends". http://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/att...8&d=1304691894

I apologize, I saw that after I responded. It's a big relief to hear that.

How does "start stop" work when it is hotter than hell outside and the AC is running? Does the compressor go electric?

everything looks great. 2 things that i am not feeling
1. Start/Stop feature - i honestly see this as a very annoying feature. I hope they have a way where one can turn that feature off. 2. The front end - i dont like the way it just slops down so much. it looks borderline ugly. the current e90 is a lot more porportional in the front than this new f30.

That is the "Unfinished" F20 1er dashboard in that 3er, the 1er gets the option of a flat screen monitor that sits at the top of the dash , similar to the BMW 6er Coupe and Convertible.
The 3er will feature technology features from the 7er and 5er as it is important to it's segment. The sector the 3er leads is earmarked for serious growth within this decade which is why there will be additional 3er models coming from the new modular matrix developed for the 1er/3er. Mass Production of these features such as Head-up display will mean BMW can offer the 3er the option more cost effectively. The 1er will also share this technology usually earmarked for the premium luxury market, again stressing it's importance as a segment that will deliver more growth within this decade alongside the 3er in the Premium Compact segment.

Steering wheel looks like the one on my wife's new X3
Love it, but that aluminum piece gets dirty and is a pain to clean I still prefer the controls on my Audi A5 Or even my fiat You get so much more control in the fiat Volume + - and track + - behind the steering wheel And the buttons on the front are for cruise control and phone, mute etc And you can navigate the entire menu from the buttons on the steering wheel

The cobbled together look is just the early prototype stage. The fit of those parts look like they belong, they just aren't 100% finished - it's difficult for suppliers to make small detail parts. Looking at those edges, it appears that there will be some sort of trim that would surround each unit (climate and radio) in the shape of "C" - probably chrome/silver. Take a look at that close up - it would just 'snap' in - you can see the outline of where the "C" would be. I think the interior will end up looking much like the X3, which I'm not particularly fond of.... and how the dash just ends like someone else pointed out.
