370mm Caliper vs 18" Wheels
Hey all, I'm looking to change up my brakes soon since according to my car, they're due in 2200km, which is about 40 days worth of driving for me. I really wanted the 370mm Blue M Sport brakes, and I know it's recommended that you have 18" tires. I'm running the replica 437m ones being sold by OEMConcept here, and I have my OEM 416 style wheels (that I will want to replace eventually) that are also 18". I've heard things regarding offsets, wheel shape, etc., but is there a way other than trial and error to know if certain wheels will work with the 370mm front calipers? Or can I just assume that since it's 18" and not crazy weird shapes that it should be good to go?

all bmw 18" for the F3x's will work with blue m-sport brakes and also m-performance brakes, which have large rotors and calipers than the m-sport blue.
i have read previously that VMR 18" and the Enkei Raijin will not work with m-sport brakes due to the inner barrel diameter being too small. there may be other wheels where the spokes may touch the brake due to face design and high offset, so be aware of that as well. stay with an offset around +35ish. here is the m-performance rotor and caliper with 397's |

M-Performance brakes are 370 front 345 rear. I'm think the M-sport rotors are smaller but the caliper is the same but i'm not sure.
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...iameter&page=2 EDIT, quickly glanced through that thread and the only difference between the M-Perf and M-Sport is the caliper color and rotors being dimpled. M-Perf and M-Sport rotor diameter is the same Last edited by alohasurftoad; 10-31-2017 at 11:23 AM.. |

Oh and because I'm a photo whore here's a photo for reference. Can't fit my finger between the rim and caliper.

Thanks. I'm trying to source some used blue M Sports from eBay. Also waiting to hear back from the sales guy who sold me my car to see if he can get me a deal on the blues or reds.

Actually question, since I've only used stock brakes for cars, is it even okay to buy used calipers? I'm sure there's damage over time, after a while do they need to be replaced entirely or can they be fixed up?

I would stick to oem offsets and not mess with +/-.

Depends on if you have a 320/328/330 or a 335/340. The 320/328/330 front M-Sport rotor is 340mm. The 335/340 front rotor is 370mm. Both use the same 345mm rear. Obviously the 370mm front rotors work on the 320/328/330s as well, but you do need to make sure you have the right caliper for whichever rotor size you're getting. Used calipers are fine. I haven't heard of any with leaky piston seals unless somebody took them apart before (and you can order the piston parts). |
