CSL means "basemodel" in German... okay it doesn't, but let me explain.
tldr: its a 3,200lb stripper with 9.5s all around that sticks like mf'er through a turn. Summer 2016 I decided I needed a normal car. My e30 was fun, but its headaches were getting in the way of my life progressing. All I wanted was for the F30 to be mineral grey and manual. I didn't care about options bc I was 22 and drove an e30 for 5 years, I was just stoked to have the "MAX A/C" button (still am). Most F30s were either out of my budget or on the other side of the country. I eventually got lucky and found one relatively close up in SF. 320i, Mineral Grey, manual trans, nav, and THAT. IS IT. Fuckin thing didn't even have floormats when I picked it up. I joked that it was race car spec since it was a total stripper (slicktop, manual seats, no ski pass, no pdc, etc), and so I decided to make it my goal to have the quickest, lightest, best handling F30 I could. Hence... CSL F30. Phase 1: -M perf aero; front side and rear -M perf mirror caps -M perf grill -M perf diffuser -19x9.5 AC Schnitzer Type IIIs -Renntech style CF spoiler -APEXi N1 Muffler -Megan springs -DNA motoring LCI headlights -Blue/Hexagon interior trim Current Weight: 3,200 / Goal Weight: 2,999 Phase 2: -VRSF catless downpipe CAI CP FMIC R1 brake rotors CF hood CF trunk CF lip CF PSM Dynamic Rear Spats CF side skirt extensions Lightweight battery Megan coilovers Short shift kit Rennstall shift knob Phase 3: Euro option cloth interior Anthracite headliner Recaro pole position (undecided) M perf steering wheel M sport brakes Gaphix seatbelts Last edited by J.Rizo; 05-24-2018 at 04:55 PM.. |

after purchasing the car in December, I bought the wheels a few months later in April. I had actually gone back and forth with the seller in early December before I had even bought the car lol I was super happy and even more surprised that he still had them after so long. 10/10 condition, had never been mounted. 19x9.5 on all four. low 30s offset iirc. test fit went good aside from the front being a VERY tight fit. I now have a 5mm spacer up front. Last edited by J.Rizo; 05-08-2018 at 04:11 PM.. |

convinced my girlfriends dad an f30 was the right move so she became a part of the club. so for a while we had almost identical cars. its fun driving her car some days bc the 328 has a bit more grunt and the zf 8 speed is pretty damn good. especially for quickly zooming around the city, no time is wasted rowing the gears. *I have the roundel because that's Hans, the traveling roundel from r3v. fast forward to November and I finally got around to putting everything together. I have a Megan hookup so the discount was worth seeing how they compare to their more reputable competition. I've done hundreds of miles in the canyons and I'm very happy with them. they're stiff enough to keep my car flat but not too crazy when I drive through the city. would definitely recommend. I like how they feel but I'd like for them to be lower. They're the H&R super sport equivalent but the drop wasn't as much as advertised. Last edited by J.Rizo; 05-08-2018 at 05:28 PM.. |

now that the car was lowered I finally wrapped up the wheels. loyal to el sereno tire. just wrapped em in used tires bc I wanted to test tire fitments for the time being. even though the tires are mismatched, the 9.5s up front are AWESOME. the car used to understeer so much before, but with all that extra rubber up front it's no longer an issue at ALL. mix that with the springs eliminating body roll and adding a wee bit of camber and it was suuuch a different car to drive. turn in was super tight and it stayed pretty flat through a turn.

time for m perf aero! shoutout to ikon motorsports. front, side, rear, skirt extensions, and diffuser. I passed on the m perf spoiler and got a carbon fiber renntech style spoiler. I wanted the PSM spoiler but they're 90% the same shape and there's about a 600 dollar price difference, soooooo... everything fit tight and the color match was perfect. the flake on mg is not easy to do.

a few days later my mirror caps were done (ikon painted these also). as far as the shape these were so much better than I anticipated. I had seen some that just had the winglet but these had the full shape/curve like real M mirrors. was very happy with these.

I had been waiting on these for so long, I was so excited to install them. which was as easy as you'd expect, just a few screws on each side and that was it. you say rice, I say nice.

(mikes performance exhaust in south central off the 110, wouldn't recommend) that same day I finally got rid of the little pea shooter 320 exhaust. now let me explain... quads on a non m just looks funny to me. the 335 setup looks good but it's what EVERYONE does. my options were limited but I wanted to think of something new... I grew up in a JDM household, so I've always loved the look of the crooked rice cannon, and it made sense to me since my cars a four cylinder. and call it what you want but is it any more "rice" than having dual/quad tips on a 2 liter 4 banger...? no, no it is not. turbo four cylinder tuner car? that's begging for a big ol ricey muffler! sign me up. AND my mom still had her old APEXi off her prelude hanging in their garage. I didn't think she'd let me use it but she liked the idea. nostalgia adds 10hp.

I finally got rid of the halogen lights and got the LCI version of DNA Motorings lights. the little cubes might seem odd but I think they look super modern. I love the way they look when they blink orange. and holy shit are the halos perfect. they're super white and super crisp. couldn't be happier. although the beams aren't the best. I'm still trying to figure out how I can improve that...

I stopped by Wrap It Up LA so they can give my lights/fogs the le mans treatment. I don't have good close ups so I'll take those soon and add em. I wanna make sure to mention them for now though bc I was very happy with my experience there. 10/10 would recommend. they did a great job and everyone there was super cool. shoutout to Robin for coming to the Nightrun I setup!

time for some good sounding STANK. vrsf catless downpipe! installed it with my stepdad at the alfa shop he used to work at. the little turbos on these cars are hilarious looking lol the turbine is barely bigger than a quarter. I can definitely hear the turbo more but it's nothing too crazy. it's for sure louder though which I was happy about. and the smell isn't really an issue. I only smell it when I do a long 0-100 pull. I drive with all the windows down constantly and I never notice it. don't listen to the cry babies who say it smells horrible.

I had to tow my car to New Century bc my tranny went out. It ended up being the input shaft bearing and was luckily covered under warranty. I was told it was going to take 15 working days for a new box to get here from the motherland. ended up being done the 24th.

I picked up my car, squeezed in a few drops of gas and headed to City of Industry to finally weigh my car. came in at 3,200lbs. give or take 10 pounds. my goal weight is to break 3k. with a couple carbon pieces, a lightweight battery, and a few small things here and there it should be very doable. Very cool build! I'm more of a power guy, so this lightweight/autocross type build is a direction I would never go, but I'm so glad other people do so I can read about them lol. This is definitely making the best of a 320i, where FBO power wise makes you barely faster than a mild 328i. Just great work dude. Unique build too with a little sprinkle of JDM in there.
P.S. I wish Matt Farah still did one-takes, I feel like this is right up his alley

hahha thanks man! i'm glad you like it. don't get me wrong though, as much fun as this car is, after 7 years of having less than 200 hp, I want my next car to be a high hp beast. but for now i'm trying to make the most of the 320i like you said hahha and gahhhhh I know! I was so sad when he said he was retiring the series! I was only a few months late. I thought it would've made a good video since a lot of people are in the market for one given their super low price right now.

Definitely a cool build. The JDM touches are interesting as you don't see them often but a tad bit confusing to me as I came from years of owning a Nissan. Not sure how to explain it... just doesn't "belong" if you know what I mean but again, interesting (especially the exhaust).
Have fun with 4 cylinders like this while you can because once you go to higher hp vehicles (6 cylinders), it's hard to go back lol.
