New AH3 Owner Checking In
Hey guys. Just purchased my second BMW, a CPO AH3. She's Alpine White with Sport Line, Navi and LED so fairly basic. I'm coming from a 2007 550i that was fully loaded. So far I absolutely love my new ride, even with less features. No big mod plans for now.
So for the current AH3 owners, what do you think of the car years later? How's the maintenance and reliability been? How much do those transmission services actually cost every other oil change? Last edited by MBentz; 06-10-2016 at 10:30 PM.. |

Too bad peeps didn't purchase when they were new. They'd probably keep making them if they had. Person selling a loaded one in the classified section here as well |

Well now there's the 330e ; it isn't exactly the same, more battery and less cylinders but sounds like a good car too. Haven't tried one though.

The ATF swap will run roughly $750 at a dealer. The fluid alone is nearly $400 for 5 quarts. Just had mine done 3 weeks ago. I've only owned the car for a couple months, but retrieved the full service history from the dealer and the car was incredibly reliable for the previous owner in the first 50,000 miles. I'm currently at 55,000 miles and the car is back at the dealer for a check engine light related to a sensor inside the low pressure fuel pump. Fully covered under the emissions warranty, hoping to have the car back this afternoon. Really love the car though. The performance is incredible.

Really looking like fuel pump failures are mounting on this model.

Dealer had my car for two days and I got it back last night. In addition to a new pump and some computer updates, I got a large scrape on my front bumper, and multiple scrapes running down my driver's side doors... Couldn't believe it. So now I'm in a '16 340i loaner while the car goes to body. Can't really complain about the loaner, but it's a shitty situation.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...-3-test-review http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...-tested-review The difference is likely in the size/weight of the battery pack. But the 330e is a plug in and can do lots of local trips on electric only power; the AH3 is not a plug-in and its pure electric range is so slight that it essentially doesn't exist. If you are buying a car purely for the power then the AH3 is better; but if you are looking for more electric run capacity, and other advantages of a plug-in hybrid (I am grnadfathered into the HOV lanes with the PHEV 330e and would lose that right with the AH3), then the almost as quick 330e looks better. As I said in another post, different strokes for different folks. If the AH3 suits your needs, enjoy it. |

I go by multiple sources to get the averages I posted. To use your words, if you want 1 test result from Car and Driver, go for it. If you want more real world results you look at multiple tests. Likewise, if I were looking at 1 Hurricane Model for a Hurricane Matthew last week, the Category 4 Hurricane would be going into the Gulf of Mexico instead of up the East Coast. BTW, I have test driven a 330e as my lease is up and I know what it feels like in comparison. Have you tested both models? I doubt it. Or is this like your instances for months that you had active cruise control in your Prius for 10 years when it was not offered in the Prius for half that time? However, coming from a Prius, I understand how you might like a 330e. Last edited by Kabrich; 10-04-2016 at 02:59 PM.. |

I readily conceded to you that the AH3 is quicker. But that is not the only consideration in a purchase. But, of course, you are obviously correct as BMW sold a slew of AH3s. I stand corrected. |
