Can't speak for the Cadillac but had drives in the Audi and Lexus, and the BMW seemed like a much more involving and satisfying experience (this from someone who's not an out & out petrol-head, just a regular driver). Also not so keen on the somewhat 'frumpy' design of the Lexus, plus over here I've had nothing but bad experiences with Audi dealers.
All very subjective of course!

Garage List 2013 BMW 335i [10.00]
2015 BMW 228i M Spo ... [0.00] 2013 Ford Focus (DD) [0.00] 2001 Alfa Romeo 156 [0.00] |
I only drove the s4 other then my 335i on your list so I can only compare the 2. My opinion I don't like the styling of the cts-v or Lexus. I don't care about having the fastest car either as long as its quick, I came from 720hp garage queen so nothing will feel faster on your list.
Anyway the Audi was nice, very nice, felt faster, but sloppier then the 335i. Then interior was super nice but felt a little cheap, didn't even have memory seating. I prefer BMW over Audi, even though my 335i isn't awd or as fast I feel more at home and connected with the car. Plus the sound of the 335i blows away that raspy v6 in the s4. Overall it was the total package for me. And I love the way the f30 looks, stylish and elegant and sporty! Oh And I believe a 335i is little cheaper.

You are all over the place...AWD, RWD, super hp, reasonable efficiency vs perfomance, Incl maintancence vs. pricey upkeep.
Why not narrow your focus and then test drive. All are great cars-not a bad choice in the lot. Buy what makes YOU happy. We will tell you BMW, Audi forum will suggest Audi, etc. |

if price is no object, the V for sure... easily the most unique out of the bunch (you might see 1 or 2 every few months as opposed to 1 or 2 a day for the 3 series) and best performer hands down.... now if you're looking for best value, the 335 is the way to go, especially if you want to lease

How old are you? If you are middle aged like me ( 42 ), Id go with the Caddy.
If you are young ( <30 ) id get the IS-F. However if you need to drive a lot in the snow, the S4. |

I'm struggling with the exact same dilemma, but I added in a very lightly used C63 into the mix. I'd like to stick with RWD but kept the S4 in the loop due to it's performance.
I've driven the 335 sport line, S4 and C63. Hands down the 335 was the worst performer of the 3 I've driven. Not that that is a bad thing because I don't think the 335's mission statement is to be the fastest. The S4 was really nice and decently quick but the C63 was on a totally different level. I made the mistake of taking my wife with me on the C63 test drive and when we brought it back to the dealer we both had a similar impression: totally impractical for our lifestyle and needs. Sucks too because of the 3 the C63 is the one I think about daily. I'd like to get some seat time in an IS-f but the one thing that constantly nags on me is the dual exhaust stacks in the rear. I absolutely can't stand them and that's probably enough to keep me from buying the Lexus. If the drive was THAT good maybe I could ignore the rear end. I am a BMW fan so I think I'm secretly holding out for a performance version of the 3 series slotted somewhere below the incoming M3. Maybe a 340i or something? I'm also holding out the decision until I see if a Wagon 335i comes to the US. |

Audi--boring looks, pricey upkeep, end of life cycle. Had an A-6--great car till but the repairs bills were outrageous. Bought wife an Infiniti to rpelace it. Lexus--tarted up Is 300 but its fast and Lexus is reputed to give excellent service. Supposed darty handling at limits. Too "boy racer" for me-that back end is horrible. CTS-V..waay fast, great reviews , only the car guys will know its "special" Dad had many Cadillacs. I know this is not your father's Caddy but can't wrap my head around it. Drove Daddy's car alot as a kid and heard about it plenty from my buds. No can do, no matter how great. BMW--I have owned 9 BMW products (incl 2 Minis)..nuf said. BMW may not be the absolute best (empirically) at any given thing but on balance they are great cars and I love the 6 cylinder turbo engines. I ordered a 335 RWD sportline and have winter tires for bad weather. Pick the one you prefer and the lease pmt. (your head) follow you heart. ps you can add the MB C300 ( or AMG if you want power) to further confuse the issue. Last edited by emtrey; 06-28-2012 at 12:15 PM.. |

Good place to ask for such opinion ;-). IMO you just can't compare a German car with something from the US (which only goes quick in a straight line and does not have a building quality near a German) or Asia....
The difference between Audi and BMW is dull vs driving pleasure. ;-) |

I was in a similar situation until last month. Was split between a 335i Msport and S4. I liked the S4 better, it has more power, nicer interior materials, great DCT and AWD. The BMW on the other hand has better interior layout (IMO), better residuals and free maintenance. At the end it was more of a financial decision for me. A equivalent S4 would cost me around 5K more than the 335i Msport (which is the price difference + maintenance cost for 4 years without even getting to the leasing discussion), and I did not feel that the S4 was $5k worth better than the 335

How are these even comparable?
THe 335i has 33hp less than the s4 and is RWD. The CTS-V and ISF are comparable to the M3 and the RS4, not a 3-series and a S4. THat is clear as day. I mean, if you're considering a CTS-V and a IFS, why are you not looking at a M3 or a C63 AMG? If the dollars are close, the Audi and the BMW are not even in this conversation for most people. But I can't see how the price can be all that clsoe when you have a CTS-V and a ISF in there. It's like asking someone to tell you if you should buy a 40 inch plasma or a 60 inch OLED. Best bet is to drive them all. It's the only way to really know. |
