Please don't take it out on the sales people...they are just trying to make a living so think twice before you offer 7.5% off MSRP as making $100 on a $70,000 vehicle doesn't make any sense...or a living.

HM.
I don't get that logic. There is plenty of profit in BMWs, but the dealer gets a small slice. Honestly the dealer model is completely broken and most sophisticated consumers would rather buy directly from the manufacturer. Paying more just serves to enable a broken model.

I just got a little bit over 7.5% off a 335 M Sport (+$1500 cash discount on top of that) from a dealer which I have been told is particularly difficult to deal with.

The only "additional fees" on top were Admin, Nitrogen, and Fuel for a total of $430 (which I felt was very reasonable). All other fees were the standard fees such as a/c, tires, licensing, etc.

They tried to include all weather mats and Globali, i simply told them I don't need either one of these and they took them off. Everything was fairly straight forward and without hassle. May have also been due to the fact that I was negotiating an on the road price with them (all fees + taxes in).

You got a great deal and yes, OMVIC will not allow dealers to force you to pay for etching, nitrogen etc if you don't want it...if they do, they can get in some serious Sh*t.

Also some stores charge for carpet mats which are included in the car by BMW Canada...yes, you are being charged $130 for the same mats which are zero dollars on BMW.ca lol....sad.
Wonder which dealer does that

Yikes, why would their pay get slashed so dramatically? Are they being moved to a pure incentive/commission system?

I guess it's time for you to move on to another dealer or another brand. I've heard MB has a much better compensation package & structure since they are mostly corporate owned.

The guy I bought my past bimmer left BMW Toronto and went to MB Toronto couple of years ago. Spoke to him last year and he said the pay structure is 'Night & Day' difference.

Geez...Maybe its time to move to Audi and get my S4 ready.

100 bucks per car..How many cars does one SA need to sell per month to make a decent living?

BTW - I guess no one entered the Bank Of Nova Scotia Contact Photography exhibit contest offered by BMW Canada. I was one of the 3 winners for the prize pack to have a chauffeured-driven bmw take us around the exhibits, then a $200 voucher to dinner at the Drake hotel.

Why does car buying have to be such a myterious process? Really it is such a waist of time. You run from one dealer to the next trying to get a price you think is fair but you never really know if it is.

Like others, I have use Car Cost Canada to become aware of dealer the invoice price and the conventional advice is to negotiate from that price up rather than from MSRP down. But how many are actually successful in getting the dealer to do that?

Everyone needs to make a liivng but the car sales process seems inherently flawed in that buyers always feel they are getting ripped off. I think dealers would be better off being more open about thier pricing structure.

And why do dealers not recognize the service revenue they will get if they sell the car to a person who lives locally? As I mentioned earlier, I drove to London to get my last car but I still get it serviced by the Quinns. I like the Quinn service guys and they are my local dealer. But the sales people forget that. It seems like sales and service people in the delaerships are strangers and don't actually work in the same place.

I service my vehicles at Quinn because it's convenient (close to work). However aside from routine maintenance (as in, fluid changes) I haven't had the best experience with their diagnostic skills. I've taken a few cars in for electronic issues only to get the response "they all do that", or "it's a feature" which is getting a bit long but have had better success with Mississauga or Budds for those technical issues.

I've been loyal and made many referrals to Quinn but given the latest experience (stupid charges, sloppy paperwork, and the servicing) I'm probably going to move on the next go around.

Wow! So after spending so much time and effort, an SA at a BMW Dealership makes only $100 after selling a car? And thats it? There's no base pay?

This has got to be a joke. Coz I heard the SA's have a target of 6 cars a month so $100 a car makes that $600 a month. There's got to be a base pay on top of the $600 commission...right?

^TObimmer not telling us the whole pay structure. I doubt any SA would work there if what he says is the fact.

Anyway, good luck. Are you going to have a new blogger name over at the Acura forum ... "TOAcura" ? Otherwise, we cannot recognize you.

They get paid 24% of gross profit left in the car hence why we try to keep as much as possible. Remember, MSRP is what the car is built to sell for and there is nothing wrong with paying that price...just like when you go into best buy to buy a laptop...the price is what it is (yes I know there is a slight difference in dollars).
Why not ask for the best price when you go to petro canada or buying grapes at the grocery store lol.

Anyway, not every car will be $100 flat as ever SA agreed to walk customers out the door if they are making less than $1500 gross profit...its not worth their time otherwise. This will of course effect volume for the dealer but the SA has to watch out for their own income...sorry Owners.

You will all be hearing less from me as I jumped ship to the Japanese...I will miss BMW because its so easy to full in love with a 335i coupe (I own one).

You can always PM if you need BMW advice or if you think your SA is saying something shady...I can tell you what's a good deal in the BMW world.

Again, this logic is silly. It is not built to sell for msrp; it is built to sell for wholesale price by the manufacturer to the dealer. BMW makes exactly the same profit whether or not the dealer discounts. Just get rid of dealers, let us buy direct and the frustration of car buying would be vastly reduced. No coincidence that republican lawmakers and dealer lobbyists in the us are trying to stop tesla selling direct.
