Saw a 530d msport today....

I must have been oblivious to the new 5 series. Saw one today in a lovely dark grey colour. Initially I thought it was a 7er. Looked a lovely car.

Anybody driven one - looked very limousine like!

Yes I have driven one, not a huge step forward from the F10

I have driven one for a weakend , lovely interior and gear box as good as F10 and interior was very modern as compared to F10 but I wasn't fan of rear of the car as seemed squashed and that's why didn't get it

F10 is better looking than G30 IMO .

It does look like 7ser though and G20 will look like G30

Not sending a lot of love for the G30.

From the looks, I thought it would be a nice luxury car to drive.

Assuming you thought the F30/31 are better to drive?

I’m not a fan of the 6er. Don’t know why, just never floated my boat.

May try and get a drive in the G30 just to see what it’s like.

The G30 is an excellent car, does move the game on from the F10/11 in many ways. Some of the finishes and switching designs and application do seem to be a backwards step, in my opinion.

I've test driven the 530d xDrive, much better diesel installation, more refined than the F10 530d. Rides well and very quiet, even on 20" run-flats.

Some of the design may not be to everyone's liking, but is well put together. Whether all F10/11 drivers like it better or not, is more to personal taste than the G30 being flawed.

I personally don't like the way BMW are growing the kidney grilles, getting too big, IMO. Losing the balanced proportions which I feel the F10 has.

I feel the G30 is more of a fussy design, not such a simple design and purposeful stance as the F10.

Agree on the size issue, all marques keep increasing the model sizing. That's marketing for you, trying to be the 'biggest in class'.

I?ve seen quite a few around now, mainly diesels. Not that impressed, tbh. I don?t think that it makes the F10/F11 look dated at all. From some angles, it doesn?t look in proportion and it?s BIG of course. The front grilles are also just too wide. So, not lusting after one - which is a relief as Ive recently ordered a 4GC

But then when people start to buy the smallest in class because they can still get that car in their garage and biggest no longer fits, they will lose some sales.

A colleague at work has a 540. Took me for a spin the other day, it's a lovely motor. A bit on the big side for me though.

Seem to be in the minority but I like them, especially in M Sport trim with the 20s. Especially like the Touring.

The front grill is so ugly, don't know what they were thinking there. Looks nice otherwise. Why isn't there a 35/40d option?

I think the entire wheel option choice is .... terrible. Can't recall a car in Msport I've not liked any before.

I can live with the grill and I just can't deal with rear end , too squashed as compared to front end

I don't understand what you are saying? Squashed as in should be longer? Or taller?

Not sure what you are seeing with the squashed rear end. Proportions are very similar to the F10, as the overlays confirm.

Exactly.

Any less squashed and it would look like a 5GT and we all know how popular they were!

My dad’s just bought a 530d so it will be good to have a good poke around. After having a 6 series I’d be reluctant to go back to a larger car though.

For some reason BMW has changed the PCD on the G30/G31 from the traditional 5 x 120 to 5 x 112, which is a VAG dimension, so you can't fit "normal" BMW wheels or your winter set from your F10.

I've driven a 530d, 540i and 550i, all AC Schnitzer. Too big for me but I agree with Pete they have moved on in lots of ways from the F10. I'm not a fan of the grills either but they don't look bad with some cosmetic touches
