How reliable has your N55 F30 been?
I have a 2010 E90 with N54 engine very heavily modded that never gave me any serious issues. Looking to get into a newer car so thinking the 12 or 13 F30 335i .
Looking at ones without warranty from the auction as I know several people that work on these cars so while reliability is a concern its not a big deal breaker. I would much rather not be going to someone once a month to fix something. Are these cars FBO reliable? What are the common issues on the f30 n55? thanks in advance |

I have 26k on my 13 and the only real issues I've had were the charge pipe breaking and the maintenance (oil service) counter not counting down. It's been fixed since without anymore issues.

I'm just hoping nothing like the N55 HPFP issue shows up...

Had 3 n55's: e90 335, f30 335i, f30 335 with mppk. No issues in any of them - high quality gas (shell 93) and the richest of high quality dinosaur oil changed @ ~5-7k miles interval. I'll miss the n55 but probably grow to love the b58 even more!

2013 335i xDrive (built Feb 2013) - 31k miles so far.
everything stock - except for the MPE. the mechanical parts have been pretty reliable. no issues. (knock on wood) issues: 1. all kinds of rattles in the cabin - went to dealer like 5 times ... they come and go. hard to fix. sometimes i think maybe it's just because I'm crazy. 2. the top view cameras failed and replaced (invoice shows $1000+, covered by warranty) 3. the side cameras failed - replaced under warranty 4. the parking sensors failed after a snow storm - all sensors replaced. 5. the side cameras failed, again. (after 1 year of previous replacement). 6. passenger side window switch stopped working - fixed under warranty 7. something broke inside the passenger side door (front) - causing rattling - dealer confirmed but needs parts, will need to take it in again after dealer receives parts. so, yea, BMW electronics are not the best. looking to get extended warranty... 2013 (build date 1/2013) 335i MSport with 8AT, MPE, MPPK, 20K miles. 2 issues corrected:
1. Aux cooling fan (specific to MSport cars) failed and was replaced. 2. Squeaky rear brakes were corrected by new caliper brackets. Zero problems otherwise.

13 335i MSport 35kmiles with MPPK,MPE,MPS,MPBrakes.
1-Main one Tranny replacement. I got new tranny at 32k miles because the same whistle when you do reverse was there when going forward. 2-Limp mode. Fan and solenoid replaced.

A few issues, but everything has been handled well and I still love the car. It runs like a gem now.
1 - Limp mode. Fan, solenoid, and car software updated. 2 - Misfiring (pretty bad). Got a CEL and power reduction warning. Injectors and spark plugs replaced. 3 - Front passenger door panel wasn't screwed in. The screw at the top of the inner door handle wasn't screwed in. I tried several times, but the thread on the panel seemed have been stripped so the screw wasn't biting. Some internal parts replaced and the door has been solid ever since. 4 - Some sort of recall for headlight software to be updated. |

Currently 2014 F32 435i- have only been in for schd maintenance so far.

My 2013 335i xDrive sedan (built in late December 2012 in South Africa) was trouble free for 3 years until several items had to be addressed recently:
1. "Clickity / clack" sound - faint but consistent at idle speeds - led to a complete engine replacement. The root cause was excessive connecting rod bearing wear. BMWNA quickly approved the engine replacement. 2. Left A/C vent generated buzzing sound. Two visits to the dealer were required to address it. There are other rattles and buzzes that I don't find severe enough to warrant a dealer visit. 3. After the engine replacement, VVT began to generate loud clicking sounds. Replaced under warranty. 250 miles later - no problems. 4. Base suspension (all xDrive sedans have base suspensions; 704 Sport Suspension was deleted after the order has been placed; dealer had no idea; otherwise I would have ordered DHP) slowly deteriorated and became too bouncy. Replaced with KW Street Comfort coilovers - set at 9 clicks. Perfect. |

I suspect it has something to do with their housing - the problems all happened after a major snowstorm or heavy rain. |

When I sold my 135i, I had 32k miles and never had an engine related issues. I was FBO from about 1000 miles on and would regularly run E85.
Apart from the clutch starting to slip in 6th gear, my N55 was bullet proof. I put it through hell, especially with the Florida heat and humidity. I really kind of miss it. S55 so far seems to be built proof, hoping I can say the same about the B58.

I had my horn replaced now that I think of it. They changed the design to withstand cold wet weather better.

My 2014 335i MSport 6MT required a new transmission at 25,000 miles. Bad synchro between gears 1 and 2. The ironic thing is that of the three 6MT vehicles I test drove, TWO had to have their transmissions replaced. Not an uncommon issue with the manuals in the F30 unfortunately.
