The A5 is a long car. I didnt like the 3 series coupe e92 due to the length of the rear section that I thought was excessive. This 4 series looks similar in length.

I am now tending towards the C-Class coupe as I like its proportions a lot and its smooth, understated style.

Not enough to make the trade from my F30. I thought it would be worth it but I guess I can fully modify my car now that I won't be trading it in for a 3 series coupe (aka 4 series)

No bimmer should have these as an option. Should be even on the base models as BMW is a luxury brand, atleast here in North America.

Wow didn't look at it that way but since you mentioned it, it does look huge and much chunkier than the svelte A5.

That's never been something audi does well (except the rs4)
But looks wise
The A5 still looks much better
It should outdrive the A5 as the A5 platform is 6 years old. The new A5/S5 will be due out in a year or two and then it should compete on par with the 4er as the current Audi cars have been received well by the press.

Whatever BMW do, I hope they don't come out 3 flavors of 4 series that nobody can readily tell what the difference is among them is. I know I can't tell what the difference is between an A5, S5 and RS5.
At that price range I would start looking at used Porsches or even new Porsches.

The difference between the A5/S5/and RS5 is the same as 328i/335i/and M3 coupe. Not hard to comprehend. The only difference is that Audi makes the S5 compete with the 335i but adds more performance upgrades and interior upgrades than the 335i vs 328i to differentiate the models a little more.

I just don't think it's as attractive as the A5/S5, and sadly, that car is what 5 or 6 years old now?

I like the C coupe proportions as well but only the AMG version

They've already dropped plenty of hints about pricing and it's nowhere near that.

A well optioned S5 would put me at aroudn $65K.... no thanks. For that price, I'd be looking at some other options. Beautiful car though.

My thoughts exactly. Two problems though:

1) Can't afford the AMG.
2) Even if I could pull of 1, there is still the fact that MB has no manual.

OK if you say so. As far as I could tell, the A5 and the S5 are available with the same motors, unlike the 328 and 335.

And this sums it up. Despite the fact BMWs have gotten so expensive, they still offer better value from the performance perspective, especially in 35i form. We'll see if this continues with the 4. I actually suspect it will. As long as they keep xenons std.

in the US i'm pretty sure they will be. in EU you can get a 335i with halogens since they aren't standard there. look at the plates.

An A5 has a 2.0T (single turbo) and the S5 has a 3.0T (Supercharger). I don't see how these are the same. However comparing the A5 to 328, the S5 to the 335 and the RS5 to the M3 makes sense because of their respective power, performance target and audience.

What are you talking about? The 2.0T is a great engine. Much smoother and more refined than the N20. Doesn't sound like a diesel either.

It comes down to basic proportions. The 4-series does not look as good as the A5 because it has a sedan-like roofline and a blunt nose. The A5 looks good because it's a much sleeker car. My guess is that BMW went with a more conservative roofline to give rear passengers more headroom, but really, who buys a coupe to drive around with people in the back? A coupe is supposed to be all about looks and performance. I also don't understand why BMW insists on giving all of their cars the "whale nose" treatment. And before someone says European pedestrian crash safety standards, last time I checked, Audi had to abide by them too.

IMHO, the blunt nose exists across the entire line up for three reasons;

1) Design direction of the BMW GINA concept
2) Design direction and future introduction of the BMW i7
3) As you mentioned, the EU pedestrian safety laws
