Not in this case (or typically) if the issue that triggered it is resolved during the next cycle at restart.

Happened to me the other day. Almost had a Honda S2000 up my ass going through toll booth when I was unable to accelerate.

335xi, 6spd, M-Sport, 6k miles. Hasn't happened since and have not mentioned it to the dealer. Waiting for it to happen again so I can take a pic of my instruments.

Is it only 335i M-Sports, or 328i M-Sports as well?

It seems like a higher percentage of people own M sports and 6MT, but the few that have an M sport + 8AT have also recorded this issue...odd that only M sports are getting it.

What kind of coding is so different between the lines I wonder?

Nice good for you! I'm personally pretty annoyed at this whole thing. It's sad that we have to deal with it and I think most of us are accepting it just cause we read the boards and at least know it's common, ... But in reality it's a huge pain.

They really gotta come up with a fix. Problem is that it looks like it's only related to M sport 335i, which is a pretty small group of cars. Maybe we should all lemon law it lol.

Very small group of cars. Even a smaller group considering manual transmission.

+1

Oil temp with PPK gets to 250 faster and stays there, it drops once I drive less aggressively.

I did not have problems with oil temps prior to PPK though

Yeah it's the extra boost...it's nice. I like...

But borat accents aside, I'm going to upgrade the oil cooler once Dinan makes it available...I know BMW made the PPK for aggressive drivers but on a track full boost Pre-PPK I was swing temps slightly past 250...

happened again this morning. wasn't even driving remotely aggressive, and about 55 deg ambient temp.

taking it in tmrw or weds. Good thing is, I was prepared and got video of it.

Question to those who have had it, yes you get a new fan, but what prevents that new fan to just failing again?

Mine did it the 1st time this am - temps in the 40's and no power in 2nd plus a roaring fan. I shut it off, and it's fine afterwards. 10/2102 build 6MT

I read through all 9 pages of this thread and it seems that some folks got it repaired with a new fan, others with a new t-stat, and some with software - should I ask for all three?

I had my third Limp Mode this morning at only 2700 miles.

To the people who have had a software update, the rest of us REALLY need to get a bulletin number. The dealers are bad about sharing this info so if we don't go armed with something concrete, we will likely get a run-around. I'm tired of wasting so much time at the service department.

have you been to the dealer 2x already? or just your third limp mode in general.

If I have to take my car in to the dealer 3x for this, I'm not going to be happy.

How about 4 times. Mine is at the dealer now while I drive a POS Ford Focus.

LoL. It's up to the tech. A new aux fan worked for me though. I think most of the people here had the aux fan replaced cuz it was fried.

New aux fan was the first thing they did for me. Back a month later.

I haven't had it in specifically for limp mode yet. After the first episode, I had it in for something else and told them to look into it. They found nothing...not sure how deep they dove.

I just scheduled a service appt for the 15th to look into this and address an annoyance where I start the car and the actuator on the tail pipe squeals. Had to wait until the 15th to guarantee a loaner because I don't want to get stuck with a rental.

I've got the Rocky Mountain chapter CCA driving school coming up on the 25th...hope I don't limp there! That could be straight up dangerous.

i guess my question is what prevents new aux fan from breaking if it's the same fan that broke originally.
