Dealer changed battrey and resulted in KOMBI communication error

My 2014 428xi convertible had a week battrey so I decided to take it to the dealer for the battrey change. After the battrey change they told me that the date and time can't be set because of the KOMBI communication error. On furhter inspection I also noted my cars mileage has disappeared too.

Dealer told me that this issue must have existed before you just didn't notice that. ( of course that's not the truth).
However they have offered that we can diagnose the error and if it gives us the date this issue occured was before the battrey change then you will have to pay for the service.

I have a few question :
1. Can battrey change for some reason result such KOMBI communication error.
2. Is there some ODB 2 tool available that I can use/ buy and check when (what date) did the most recent KOMBI communication error happened.

Note : since my car had weak battrey, there were quite a few error code already present my concern is that dealer will associate one of the error code with the Kombi error. So looking for this help.

You are not the first owner? Since when did you have your car?

You can get a $10 ENET cable on EBay/Amazon and download for free from one of the threads here or search on Google for ISTA+ (standalone version) and PsdzData Lite. This is the same software BMW dealers use.

Really? Did they fill out a service order?

What did they put down for mileage?

That's an interesting question, because when I gave my car I should given them the current mileage and now it is not showing the mileage. Some point I hope I can counter on.

I would ask here, or contact Shawn with a PM.

You need the ISTA+ standalone version and at least PzsData Light. Follow the install guide exactly, it will save you a lot of headaches later on.

EDIT: it's available for free, so do not pay anywhere.

If you took the car to a BMW dealership…most of them use key readers to get the mileage. And the mileage is usually written on the work order/service order which you should have gotten a copy of when you paid them for the service.
