High pitch noise from engine bay

Hello guys, I don't know from where exactly is coming from but I don't think this is normal, did anyone have any idea what is this noise???

Sounds like a metal on metal scraping sound. My first thought was a pulley guide, but the sound intervals vary from 1-4 secs. Best to bring it in.

Thanks for the info, this noise is not constant, only from time to time and only when the car is OFF. To me sounds more electrical buzzing.

I have a very similar noise, when the engine is warm, but after having sat for a while. The noise starts after starting the engine, then stops after a few minutes. Very mysterious. Mines a 2013 328ix.

This is a video that I recorded some 3 years ago, from my 2008 135.

"My 135i talks to me. I hear it when I am sitting inside watching TV, if I have the garage door open. It must drive my neighbour nuts (their back patio is right next to my carport). Any ideas what it is?"

It's the same noise as you've got. I recognised it immediately. I never got a satisfactory answer and just learnt to ignore it.

Yes SimonB, same crappy noise. I'll take it to the dealer and see what they say.
Mine is a 2013 328i BASE, no line.

Funny thing... tonight is the first time I heard this in my car. My radio was off and I was driving to get dinner when suddenly... faint beeping. I kept listening for the next few miles and it did it in intervals and definitely sounded like it was coming from the engine bay/firewall. I parked the car to eat and when I got back in to drive home... it did not beep again.

Once it gets more consistent, I will have to take it in to the dealer :-/

I get the same noise on my car as well, it's pretty intermittent but when it does happen it's always after the car has been shut off after driving. My old E90 made the same noise on occasion as well.

Keep me posted - am a deaf BMW owner - would ask someone to listen once in a while if it happens to me 😃 My 2014 328d in EBII is having a voyage across the Atlantic! Can't wait!

I get this noise when driving slowly in ecopro mode and you press the accelerator gently I think it is a solenoid for the electric throttle

Interesting! I occasionally hear what sounds like long beeps in the cabin but never got a chance to pop the hood to investigate it. I used to wonder what those noises were, but since it sounded like some sort of electronic beep I ignored it as some "random, but normal function". Hasn't ever caused any issues and I didn't think about it further until you posted this and it suddenly clicked that it's the same noise that I can hear in the cabin! It sounds more high-pitched in your video though, with the hood popped open.

I only notice when I just fitting some replacement hid ballast and bulbs so I was worried something to do with that lol

Hey man did you find out what this problem is? I have the same issue. everytime i go to the local dealer they noise is gone.

Sorry to bring back an old post but did you figure out what it was. Same thing happened to me at the dealer they couldn't figure it out.
