I just leave mine off, the way it was delivered to me. I keep the extra plate in the trunk.

Can anyone confirm that a dealer MUST honor the request of a client to leave the front plate and/or bracket off of the car even though state law may require it? I don't know why my CA (for whatever reason it might benefit him) is telling me they might not be able to do it but he will make a note of it on my order. Is there any way to guarantee the plate/bracket is left off of my car???

Tell the CA if you show up and there's a front plate the deal is off. All he has to do is write on the windshield when it arrives to not put the plate on. Keep insisting on this.

That is what I basically said. I did have to add a note to the bill of sale stating that it was my choice to drive away without any front plate on. That way I would be liable for anything, not them.

My dealership refuses to install them to many of the cars, including the F30. They put the plate in the trunk and offer to attach it on before you leave.

i ziptied mine to the bottom grill. Looks good and have seen more and more F30s and F10s doing the same. Looked into the GoMiniGo also but didnt want to redrill my plates and still risk PDC going off.

That's fine. My dealer didn't make me do this. I think it's silly the dealer makes you sign something because once you drive the car off the lot you own the car and not the dealership.

I can imagine this to work. Would this have any adverse effects on airflow though? considering US spec F30's had the most minute fogs left off due to "restricted air flow".

As for an update with my local dealer...apparently my CA was confused about my request. I am having ED so he thought I was talking about the European plate while out in Germany. IIRC the European plates are attached to the car by adhesive and not bolted onto the car, correct me if I'm wrong. As far as leaving the plate off when the car arrives in the states; he said he can accommodate that request

Speak of the devil! I just got pulled over for no front plate today. No ticket, but did get a warning. I went 7 years previously with only 1 warning in my previous vehicles. With the 335, I only lasted 7 days!

I'll probably still take my chances for now and if I get a couple of tickets along the way, it is no big deal.

Honestly, i doubt it. I'm double clutching like i should, not granny shifting, so i do not need anymore air flow to beat Ja Rule's integra hahaha

You can also look into the motorized front plate thing, Artem@Oneighty has it and its pretty legit.

I've seen the unmotorized version of it too (a bit cheaper). The only reason I would ever really need this is for photo shoots and prevent "holy" bumpers Any idea if the sliding plate clears the bumper when it's hidden or does the grill get in the way and have to be slightly cut??

The airflow will be more of an issue in the dead of summer while you're in traffic or at low speeds. It has nothing to do with how you drive the car. It will absolutely have a negative effect. Whether it's enough to cause an issue is uncertain.

Front ED plate is affixed with double-sided foam tape. Rear plate is screwed on (screws right through the plate) to the normal US mounting holes in the trunk lid. I know the dealers can't guarantee that the plates will still be there when the car is delivered. They must remain on the car when it's exported so you can't grab them yourself when you turn it in.

I think I'll take the risk without it and if/when I get a fix-it ticket in CA I'll ziptie it to the front, get it signed off on, pay for it, and take it right back off

I'll take my chances here in CA as well. I feel I should be ok during DD. When I take longer trips involving the highways I will attach to my tow hook. Highway Patrol tend to give tickets more than police departments do for this kind of thing...
