BimmerTech Rear View Camera - Group Buy

Hey guys,

In another thread, I mentioned the possibility of a group buy for the BimmerTech Rear View Camera retrofit kit, and Nelson was kind enough to let us.

It's 15% off for 5 people, and 20% off for 10 or more people. Comment if you want to join!

Lets try and get 10, 15% is $90 and 20% is $120 off. Count me in, I didn't order this from the factory for some unknown dumb reason! :P

Since I have an F32 without Nav or PDC, I'll be getting the BimmerTech non-OEM kit found here:

http://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/bmw-...amera-retrofit

I assume (but I hope Nelson/Patryk will correct me) that the group buy applies to the other two camera kits as well. If you need help deciding which kit is best for you, BimmerTech has a pretty handy blogpost:

http://www.bimmer-tech.net/blog/item/1-bimmertech-blog

Remember, you don't have to get the EXACT same kit as me. My kit is unique to my car's options, and to being F32. They also have the same kits for F30s and other models.

Note: The SmartView mirroring device (while a great add-on) currently doesn't work with iOS 9. However, I've been talking with Patryk and he let me know that BimmerTech is working on a fix.

I'd be down, I've been up in the air about this, but I think I'll finally break and jump in and get one with the mirroring

I'm interested in the OEM rear view and front camera option, I'm in the UK if that makes any difference

Well, that brings us to 6, if everyone is still in.

There were a few people in other threads who expressed interest as well, but they haven't commented here yet.

I think I'll be ordering tomorrow. Hopefully this gains a bit more traction and we get ten. Lol

Nelson,

I have your non-OEM system with SmartView installed in my F34. Very nice to mirror Google Maps on the car's screen while I am streaming radio from my Galaxy S6. Ok keep kids busy on the trip with some netflix cartoons!

What I dont like though is the colored parking lines the camera is generating. Together with the multimedia unit's green lines and red dynamic lines makes it too cluttered... I read somewhere that camera OSD can be turned off by cutting a wire loop. Can you varify this? Where is this wire located and what color is it?

With the phone connected to the mirroring through wifi how do you get LTE connection for maps or netflix on your phone?

I asked that same question in a previous thread, and was told by another member "Don't worry about it. It works."

Maybe someone from BimmerTech will confirm, but I believe the members who say it works, otherwise they'd be complaining.

When parked on my driveway I have Wifi reception from home network. It seems that two different Wifi connections are being maintained - one Peer-2-Peer with the Miracast adapter and one with home's router.

On the road the phone streams over 3G/4G network.

/Dimi

The cell phone is a Samsung Galaxy S6. Occasionally I get a message that the connection does not perform fast enough (or something along these lines) and mirroring will be restarted. I assume this is due to the very weak wifi signal I get from home in my car at driveway - when on the road streaming over cellurar network I never get this message neither indoors when I was testing SmartView device on my home TV.

Sounds good thanks. Anyone know if iphone does this too. Mirror over wifi while streaming over cellular?

I am an android person but borrowed kids' ipad and wife's iphone 6 to do some more testing.

On Apple devices a P2P connection to BimmerTech's Smartview device needs to be established before Airplay mirroring is activated.

That's a limitation for iPads since the wifi adapter is tethered to the car and you can only play back media stored locally in the device.

The iPhone on the other hand can still stream slingbox, netflix, youtube, tunein and other live media over cellular no problem while wifi is busy mirroring to the car's screen.

Having said that I like my android phone better. I can stream and mirror content simultaneously over Wifi and have it connected over bluetooth to the car too to answer phone calls, give voice commands etc.

Apple devices can not stream audio over bluetooth while mirroring with Airplay.
