335i or 330d ??

I am new to BMW and need some opinions please..

I currently have a S5-V8 version that will be going tomorrow as I have got bored of it.

Let me explain, when I bought it in September 2011 my previous car was the A5 3.0 tdi and the S5 is virtually the same apart from the engine.

The engine is great and enjoyable but 18 months one I still feel like I have had the same car. I was offered a decent amount for the S5 from a specialist broker so I am letting it go tomorrow.

I have had 2 No. A4, 2 No. TT's (still got a 2.5 year old one which I am going to use for now), A5 and S5.. As my login suggests I have got a little bored of Audi, they all seem to drive very similar and as my audi friends say I am going over to the dark side !!

A work colleague has just got a 320d sport and was impressed with the drive in comparison to my S5 which shocked me for a car nearly half the price.

So off I went to the BMW dealer and tried a 330d m sport for the day and in a few weeks a 335i m sport.

By the time I had finished I was very impressed with the 330d, there is power just in a different place compared to my S5...

So I have spec'd up a 330d with virtually everything (not decided on Xdrive yet) until someone said get a 335i as it is different again.

I only do 12k a year so fuel is not as important as when I used to do 35k per year. mind you I am always in the station with the S5 which averaged 15.8 MPG over 18 months (real figure not on the dashboard)

Any advice please ?

330d v 335i and xdrive

Not sure whether it's released or for orders.. The info was from this german site
http://www.bimmertoday.de/2013/01/28...d-f31-touring/

A google translation to English:-

BMW 335d xDrive F30 / F31: bi-turbo diesel is 2013, only with four-wheel
Filed: 28/01/2013

Wait a long time BMW has let the fans and many potential customers were even serious doubt on the fact that in the case of the BMW 3 Series F30 at all a 335d is offered. Now it is clear: In the summer of 2013, the new BMW 335d xDrive F30 with twin-turbo diesel and more than 300 PS goes on sale, a little later, the BMW 335d xDrive Touring (F31).

As with the top-diesels, the 5 Series and 7 Series, BMW will offer also the twin-turbo six-cylinder engine in the 3 Series F30 exclusively with the xDrive, a variant without driven front wheels is not planned - unlike in the case of well over 300 hp Top petrol engine 335i, where customers can choose between rear-wheel and all-wheel drive.

In addition to the xDrive could include the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission as standard find their way into the BMW 335d F30 / F31. Despite a standard consumption of well under six liters per 100 kilometers, the turbo-diesel will accelerate in approximately 5.5 seconds from 0 to 100. Priced the sedan should start at about 50,000 euros, for the touring as usual be 1,750 euros more mature.

It above the 335d also a BMW M350d xDrive will be with Triturbo diesel is, according to our information virtually impossible. The market for such a model would be so manageable that the development would simply not be worth it.

for me its not about the mpg either, i do less than 10k a year, although getting over 40 avg mpg is a bonus, its where the power or should I say torque is you don't have to rev the nuts off it to get anywhere, just easy low rpm torque combined with the auto box is just perfect for everyday driving

It you want to stay petrol and get something quick then there is the Alpina B3 Bi Turbo :

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Se...cial-pictures/

404bhp and 442lb ft, 0-62 in 4.2 sec, 190mph unrestricted top speed, and 39.2mpg and 169g/km. So no stupidly high road tax to buy. It is £50K though but can be ordered now, according to that website.

Or if you wait till next year there is the new M3:

The 330d xDrive looks a beast, stats wise. Great economy (ok, I know you said it's not important), very quick and huge torque.

My 'next' car is definitely going to be the new M4, in a few years after this car whatever 'this' car might be

The 330D is an incredible car, plenty of poke and real economy in one package. Smooth for a diesel and quite an appealing 'gruff roar'.

Thanks for all your replies so far... manufactures are so frustrating when they won't even give indications of dates of new releases... it was the same with the S5. Audi told me there would be no 3.0 supercharger (but it was already out in the S4) .. and guess what I picked it up on the 1st of September 2011 and this was the launch date of the 2012 S5 with 3.0t , mind you definitely got the best of the two....

The S5 has now gone and need to make a decision next week and so far looks like the 330d, but I might hang myself if they launch a 335d the very next week.

The alpina looks great but need some wheels in the next 3-4 months.

Once I decided the car the next problem is the new phone choice I make in April.... looking at the forums this appears a little messy ...

If they were open about what's coming out, everyone would put off for the 'new' one, so can't really blame them.

The way I look at it is this: 330d RWD is brilliant value. A 335d xDrive will cost significantly more but provide great performance. So if you are going for an F30 6 cyl Diesel, it's 330d RWD or 335d xDrive. No point going for a 330d xDrive IMVHO as it's neither fish nor foul. The 330d RWD is THE golden nugget

The 330d is a brilliant engine. Economical and fast enough for the UK. You can't go wrong with this choice. And, I love RWD. 335d will be xDrive, heavy and just a bit faster but for enormous more expense. Not worth it IMO.

EBII is the best colour bar none and is a consistent talking point. It's simply stunning when the sun shines on it. The Dakota Coral Red Hippo Hide is the perfect ploy for the EBII hue. It is a very beautiful deep red. Makes the interior look very sporty and expensive. Dakota Hippo Hide Black is very funeral, looks plastic fantastic and great for a mini cab. Most depressing. Pretty rubbish if you ask me. Dakota Hippo Hide in Beige is very nice too and, for me, the next best after Coral Red.

I would really go for one of the Individual Leathers. Even the Black is wonderful! They really give the car a luxury feel and are terribly nice to perch on.

Glad to see an Audi driver being honest for a change! Whenever I try to tell my Audi driving mates that the BMW is the better drive they just give me the reps car abuse... their loss.

Be warned though after 3 BMWs anything other than RWD irritates the piss out of me now, all that torque steer..... I include quattro in that assessment.

The dark side is always cooler anyway!!

All you need is white wheels.... Oh wait jubilee was last year so that would be SO last year!!!
