Best UHP Summer Tires

Michelin 4s or Conti 7's? Even Firestone Firehawks? Does one stand out that you can get 30k miles out of it? Nitto Nt-05 is nice or Bridgestones new tire?

PS4S typically win the category. They are what i run. I ran MPSS before them. PS4S have a 30k warranty if ran in square setup.

I hear good things about the 500s as a "budget" alternative.

Depends what you want and if you do lots of wet driving, or want a blend of comfort, or care about wear mileage. The PS4S work well and give good, predictable performance across a range of temps and on those greasy, cold damp roads you get in the UK a lot. They're also reasonably supple which on our crap rural roads is a positive. The downside of that is that they can definitely feel floaty and don't have the sharpest turn in if really throwing it around on country roads. Something like the new Bridgsetone Potenza Sport would probably be better there, albeit a) I haven't tried it and am going off what Jonathan at Tyre Reviews has said and b) you're giving away cold and greasy road performance to the Michelin, and probably significant life too. Don't get me wrong, I really like the PS4S but they are not the panacea some people hold them up as, IMO. I recently took my RFT Sottozeros off after the winter and it's noticeable how much stiffer the Pirelli's are (as you would expect for RFT) and while I prefer the rubber's performance on the PS4S because you haven't got winter tread blocks squirming around when pushing on, the turn in is nowhere near as sharp. It would actually potentially tempt me back to the idea of some good UHP RFT's like the Pirelli P Zero's next set. On big sweeping roads it's not an issue but on tighter stuff it definitely detracts and reminds you you're in a big and heavy car.

It's worth asking if you are seeking RFT or non RFT tires.

Id just like maximum performance and traction in summer conditions with decent tread life. Falken 615's are nice too. These new Contis were designed to beat the 4s. Im interested.

Those were the alternative tire i considered for my 3000gt, but AFAIK there is no mileage warranty for them, and they wear faster than the PS4S. They are very common at AutoX events i have been to.

Nice im not worried about a tread warranty as how often do you utilize that! Im mainly concerned with basic longevity and excellent dry traction

You might also consider the Hankook RS4 or the new Michelin 5S, the successor to the 4S. Or, go for the Michelin 4S* (the OE version for BMW). The compound make up of the tire is different than the generic 4S, emphasizing longer wear on the tire's shoulder over the generic version. No doubt you have noticed that many BMWs, even M cars, are light on camber (~ 1 - 1.5 deg) hence having a tire maker specifically address shoulder issues makes a lot of sense. Be aware Michelin makes * (star) versions of the 4S for multiple makes including Porsche and GM (for the Vette). Ask for the 4S* for BMW OE.

Good luck.

Continental SportContact7 is probably a "faster" tire than the Michelin PS4S. But it always seemed like the SportContact series has very limited size options.

According to R&T (https://www.roadandtrack.com/news/a3...sport-5-tires/) March 1, 2022 but that date has clearly passed so . . . anytime soon??

I've also considered the falken fk510's or their soon to be released 520's. Great budget option with good reviews and good price. Not the BEST in terms of raw performance but good bang for the buck summer instead of a a/s like dws.

My next set of tires I'm looking to downsize from 255/35 to 245/35 and for the dws it was 820 and the falkens were 710. I think it'll be worth it as the wheels they're mounted on are only for 6-8 months out of the year here in texas.

It's important to note this is a replacement for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, NOT 4S. There has not been a release (not sure on announcement) for a replacement of the 4S, i.e. the 5S, although it is presumably coming sometime this year or early next year. The PS4S is still currently Michelin's flagship UHP summer tire.

MPSS are still a good option. I think they 're better in dry conditions than the 4S, according to tyre reviews.

CUP 2 are even better, especially if you track the car, but you have to be careful to bring them in the right temperature. They're worse than 4S in DD.

I went with the fk510s on my wife's F32 and don't regret it (she doesnt either but she also probably doesnt care). They were replacement for worn out MPSS's, which was a step up but no where near a set of good ones. FYI, the 510s, and probably Falken in general, run wider than the Michellins with the same tire profile. Not substantially, but its noticeable.
