Tire Recommendations for 513m

Recently picked up a set of staggered 513s - 18x9 et29 and 18x10 et30. They are currently wrapped in 255/40/18 squared Michelin AS3+. The tires don't have much life left so I was looking to see what my options are once they are toast. I am interested in 245/45/18 and 275/40/18 for a more aggressive tire setup and wanted to see if anyone has experience with this setup lowered on coilovers. The rolling diameter among tire sizes is the same so it is compatible with my xdrive 340i. I'm not looking to run any extensive camber mods.

I've only seen this setup in the forums on stock suspension and wanted to see how it would be on KW V2s.

My current setup is 437m's (same offset but 19" diameter) running a 235/40 265/35 MPS4S. I am very satisfied with my ride height right now (basically tire to fender) and although there is a little bit of poke, the tires tuck in on bumps (no rubbing). Currently running -1° in the front and -2° in the rear. I would ideally not raise the ride height of my car for these wheels.

Here is a photo of my ride height for reference:

i believe the outer shoulder of 245/45/18(26.7") at ET29 will graze the fenderwell liner or tab while turning at or near full lock. since 275/40/18(26.6") is girthier (0.3" taller/10mm wider) than what you have now, it'll be tighter but should still clear under compression, as i've seen this size on the rear of other lowered F30's with 513M. on 18", tall sidewalls tends to make the wheel diameter look smaller.

235/45/18(26.3") & 265/40/18(26.3") provides virtually the same 3-D footprint as what you currently have and is what i'd get

255/40/18(26.0") & 285/35/18(25.9") provides the most aggressive(widest) setup and since diameters are closest to OEM, the gearing, speedo and odometer will be as such. tbh, i've been waiting for someone to put this size combo on 513M or aggressive APEX 18" wheel setup, will you be the 1st for us?

Thanks alohasurftoad for the advice. As much as I would love to be a pioneer for the F30 community, I could only imagine the struggle with running a 285 rear tire considering the poke I have now with a 265. Although I am a fan of the wider tire and 255/40 fronts, I was aiming to get a thicker sidewall with this set considering the road feel from the 19" 437s and not-so-optimal NJ/NYC roads.

In an ideal scenario I would have a wider and thicker setup on the 513s than I have now, hence the 245/275 combo, but I know I wouldn't be content with the rubbing at full lock. I am leaning towards the 235/45 265/40 set for now.

Personally, if you like how the stance is now, including the rear stretch, I would stay with 255/40. 235/45 upfront is not going to improve steering feel and staggered setup will introduce the sense of understeer.

If I were getting back into 513s again, I would snatch these up in a heartbeat and run 9" square and sell the 10" to the f80 track guys https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1922221

I appreciate the recommendation. I was wondering about the benefits of a squared setup regarding steering and was considering the idea of fronts all around but thought it would be hard to find for a decent price. Thanks for the link.

that's the setup I did, I ordered 4 fronts from BMW directly, the price came out to about $2500 (although Im able to get BMW parts at cost so that helped). Did 255/40/18 all around.

I had 513s on my 335d, went to 640m on the 340 and now on apex vs5rs :>)

yep i know your car, and tbh if I had to do it all over again, I might've done the Apex wheels, they were released while I was waiting for my 513m's to come over from germany. 763M and Y-spoke wheels hold a slight edge in my heart on best wheel design ever lol. But I can't complain about the 513m's, they get a lot of compliments. my only issue is that they're gunmetal, and I have a grey car... if I went with Apex wheels, I would've been able to do a contrasting color with the wheels.

mineral340 i'm glad you're going with 18s to replace your 437m's. i think 18s suit F30 the best imo.

I was a click away from ordering 4 fronts of 513m like you...but I kept hesitating on the MG/Gunmetal combo (Still looks badass) and then I saw the APEX GB come out. Don't worry, as soon as I stop on my brakes, the brushed clear alloys turn pewter in color...lol

Ditto...I'm a big fan of 18's on the f30. My detal filing are starting to age

Tire Recommendations for 513m

@toxik thanks for the recommendation! The square front set looks great on your car. My original wheel selection when I bought my 340ix was arc8s 18x9 et30 so a set of front 513s follows suit pretty nicely. I figured an xdrive f30 isn't an ideal car to run a staggered setup and if I can improve the handling ever so slightly, I'm all for it. Not to say that the 437m/MPS4S combo isn't fantastic, I can imagine the benefit of a square setup. How are the DWS06+?

dmanb2b your VS5RS pair perfectly with the MG. I was also a little on edge about the MG/Gunmetal but after seeing it on a few f30s, I don't think it clashes too hard. My 437s made me realize that black wheels aren't for me. I plan on running the existing 255/40s to the ground before overhauling and swapping to a square setup, so if powder coating was in the cards, that would be an optimal time.

Thank you! Yeah I agree...it looks great. I do miss the look of 513s on my old e90, and as much as I wanted another set, happy that I switched up shoes a bit

love the dws6+ more than i thought i would honestly, im really impressed with these new tires compared to the last gen. of course as i mentioned in the thread, i was hoping to get AS4s but they're on backorder, well they were for like 2 months when I got my wheels. i don't regret the decision at all, but i wouldn't be surprised if AS4 is even better. my friend has a g80 m3, and he runs dws6+ as his winter setup, and he recommended them to me, his car handles and performs great with them. so i knew i'd have no issue with my lil ol 340i

FWIW (I have no personal experience other than a few friend's opinions) I used to run AS3+ and LOVED them...not a MPSS or MPS4S but 90% of the grip, great rain performance and very good treadwear. Seems like the AS4 went more the way of an all season. Still a very good tire, but lacking the lateral grip the AS3 had.

I had experience with the AS3+ on my 403m's and loved them. Great performance upgrade from the factory continental runflats and pretty decent for the minimal winter driving that I did. Summer tires on the other hand, I am extremely impressed by the MPS4S on my 437s. Spent a decent amount of $$$ on the setup so I'm hoping to get a little more use out of them. If I still have them when the AS3+ on the 513s are done, I will go with DWS06+ (for a Fall to Spring setup). Otherwise, the 513s will get the MPS4S treatment and I will be back on the market for a winter set. Thanks for the advice!
