I think you need factory EBT (not coded) with the built in 4g SIM to get OTA updates

I have a June 2015 build car and I don't have OTA updates.

Yep, I think the 4G sim only appeared with the LCI. I wasn't talking about the map updates though, which I believe to have come in with the LCI, just the Connected Drive (Bluetooth and USB drivers) update. My manual talks about being able to do it straight from the car, rather than via the website. But, as there has only been one, it's not too onerous a task!

As for messages, I've got EBT but cant find the office function? Also I thought I could stream music from my phone besides using the cable?

You need to select the phone from Bluetooth devices

Might be worth uninstalling and reconnecting.

I'm running:
002.049.003 for both media and telephone.

Is that out of date? Am I missing any significant features?

One thing I would like to know is if I can upgrade from 3g to 4g which might make it worth getting Internet.

I had the same version which is now updated to the 2.255... I don't think is possible to update to 4G

I asked about the update today at BMW and the guy helping me showed me how to use the USB update method. I get home and download the update. What program do you use to unzip the file? I have a program but the update doesn't support that and requests another program. I tried one and it didn't work?

As for the streaming music and SMS messages over Bluetooth to the iDrive I was told that this feature isn't supported because I have a iPhone but if I was to use a Samsung or Blackburry I could use these features? Is this true or was he just blagging his way out because he doesn't know how to use the features either?

I did ask to see one of their product genius' only to get a blank look from the receptionist and was then pointed to the servicing desk....

so car went into have the steering rack changed, delivered back with the usual irritations of lights set to off, seat pissed around with, aircon off, fan turned down blar blar.

Got over that and then tried to make a call but couldnt hear the other person. Turned out the sound was turned down (strange i thought)

Then I realised they had reset most for f'ing idrive for some reason, all radio/shortcuts gone - arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Anyway, phone problems have reoccurred from 2 years ago with bluetooth rebooting mid call, calls not on bluetooth etc. So I checked the versions

well i took a picture of the version on the 6/10/14 and it was on

so unless BMW are running their firmware versions backwards i cant see how it has been reset to the original version........

The newest you can get from BMW.com starts with 002

Just put the bin file on a FAT32 formatted USB stick, and it should work fine.
Having said that, when I updated mine the website said I needed a certain version, but the car said it's not compatible, so I downloaded the newer one and it updated fine.

Check your USB, if it's NTFS formatted it won't work I think.

I put my car back to the dealer to update the software as mine is running
001.036.002being a May 2013 build.
I tired updating using the USB and it didn't work. The dealer phoned today to say I was running 'the most up to date software' and I had successfully updated mine!

Yes, the Mac creates some additional hidden files in the USB drive which "confuse the car". The way around it is to use a PC to delete those .DS_Store, .Trashes, etc. the mac creates - those should be easy to spot if you "show hidden files" first...

The .bin file you get from bmw does not need to be unzipped... just the pen drive should only have the .bin file without those other hidden folders.

If you don't have access to a PC then see if you can find an app to delete those temp files.
