When you lift it completely up (some 60 degrees tilt), it snaps (on purpose) to a place of the top of the boot so that it can stay in the upright position.

For me it snapped accidentally, and after inspecting the snap-ins, I realised it is like that by design

Here is the excerpt from the owners manual.
Its a great design but it works like crap in the dark. Could they have put the lights to the opposing sides so its not dark when searching for something with it up? Lol

This is my first BMW so perhaps some features are just standards from previous models, and maybe is already in the car's manual, (but just in case): there is an small switch in the glove box compartment (right upper corner) that allows to lock/unlock the trunk? I think is a nice feature for valet parking, if you want to keep this space isolated and safe for that occasion. however the user must remember to lock the glove box and get the key from the keyfob...

BTW I just didn't figure out -yet- how to open (at least half of the time that I try) the trunk with the "comfort access". I found that this feature is not working the way that it should... It is very "tricky" and is not as "intuitive" as should be... Mine is a 2013 model so I don't know if a software update is required to get this feature work...

For the comfort access trunk, you have to be dead-centre. Put your foot under the bumper, and pull it back out. Not super-quick, just a slow, deliberate "toes in, toes out".

Once you learn the motion, it'll work every time.

Just don't kick the muffler, as it'll setoff the alarm...it's goofy, but I eventually learned the technique over time...you have to be dead on behind the license plate though. Odd for "comfort"...

The other trick is to stand several inches back, I think the car has a sensor that detects if you are too close and wont open the trunk if it will hit you as it opens.

Ok. Thanks guys, I'll try this way, (and to remember not to kick the muffler). Other thing that I read from other post is that the car's doors must be in open position to activate the trunk feature (?). Today I tried this way once and it worked (at least this time). However if this is true, and is a must have to unlock the car to activate this feature, I think it won't be practical: in a typical situation with the car locked in a parking lot, you will approaching with your hands full, the first action will be to get the things in the trunk and then open the doors of the car, not in the opposite way...

I'll give a try with the doors in locked and then in unlocked position, and see how this work... and I'll must remember not to kick the muffler (again), dead center, not to far, but no to close either... just in the right spot...

My trunk opens if I have the key in my pocket. No need to unlock first.

Today I noticed two hooks in the truck. Small, as to hold grocery bags, etc. One on each side, very high up close to the hinges.

Open Trunk with confort access...

Finally, I learned to open the trunk... (well 9 of 10 times is a very good approach). Position & timing are key factors to do the trick... (Now I'm getting more "comfort"-able with this feature. Thanks all of you for those interesting facts and tricks...

One long month before I get my f30, but here's what I'm planning:

1) call home
2) call home, turn on specified lights, favorite music on in kitchen, alarm off, heat up 2 degrees ( all via home automation controller)
3) call work
4) call work, turn on lights, alarm off, log time in, heat on.
5) local police scanner on (via apps and web radio).
6) airport radio - best and most up to date weather (via apps and web radio)
6) weatherband on ( after coding of course)
7) car ventilation
8). Looking for help on this one, does the system have a record a message feature ? You could perhaps record that friendly policeman when he pulls you over.

I still can't get the blasted thing to work. I may be standing too close. Also, I always kick too far and hit the muffler.... Thx for the advice, will try tomorrow.

My Presets:

1. Show Media Info on Split Screen
2. Show Trip Info on Split Screen
3. Treble (yes, treble... this car's 3-4kHz region is like an ice pick in the ear).
4. Current Song (or something like that)
5. Map shows Perspective
6. Map shows overhead facing North
7. Arrow view in Split Screen
8. Show/hide Split Screen

I realized last night the MT has a hill brake... which is sort-of-win.

Oh, and the buttons to adjust the hugginess of the seats are absolute win.
