I agree 100%. Why is the car industry greedy if they are making money? As many business owners will agree, the entire reason to be in business is to make money! Why give away your hottest product for no profit?

I for one will never understand, especially after working for a BMW dealership for seven years.

From my experience the dealer is more likely to "deal" if you take a car off the lot...The price they pay for the car is the same whether they get it as stock or special order. I hope my dealer will give me 1000 off msrp i plan on ordering it, but i am not holding my breath.

Another option to get it at a reasonable price is to sit tight for 12months if you don't want to pay what they are asking. Even when the prices do come down, BMWFS will still charge a premium rate to finance the car as evidenced by the X3, 335d, 335is, and 1M all financing and leasing for significantly higher rates than the other models as at August this year. They were offering 3.9% on those cars and 1.9% on everything else back then. I need a car next year so I don't have much of a choice. Its either an F30 m sport or X3 35D for me.

I have heard numerous stories of people here on the forums grabbing their car for 500 to 1000 over dealer invoice, so I wanted to know the possibility of that happening for the new f30.
PM me if you are willing to take a 45 minute ride from Philly to Jersey for the car and I will give you a contact to hook you up.

I have NO affiliation with this dealer other than a couple of e-mails back and forth concerning purchasing a 2012 3 Series coupe.

I'm not going to post the pricing that he told me, but I can tell you that of the five dealerships that I spoke to around here, not one could touch his pricing.

The dealership is Steve Thomas BMW in California and the Guy to talk to is Ryan Amico. His pricing Really Surprised me!
I didnt think anyone had pricing yet? Why would anyone give a discount on a new car ? Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Thats giving money away.

What's up with the 19inch wheel on every car. I'm assuming 18s come standard with the sport line?

Every test car for reviewers is identical. The 19's look to be a staggered setup... interested in finding out if the sportline 18's will also be staggered.

I just checked the option guide provided on this site and it looks like the sport line will come standard with 17s, but you can opt for 18s for 400 euros.

If it means waiting until June to go and buy one off the lot, then so be it, but I'm losing the customization I wanted so very dearly. If you're looking for deal, now is not the time. I spec out, ordered and put down a deposit for a 2011 E92 for ED when it was rolled out first of March 2010, and waited until first week of June to get deal I wanted and took delivery in Munich two weeks later. I was able to pull this off because the dealer said, if we could not come to an agreement on a price he would take the car and sell to another customer. As mentioned by another poster, ED is the best way to go, you'll save money and be able to drive the car on the Autobahn-!!

I love the idea of doing ED but factoring in the flight to Germany and other expenses can add up. No doubt saving money, but how much is the exact question. Also I'm assuming you pay for shipping the vehicle back to the states? Or no? Not to up to date on ED I'm afraid.

This. They cover shipping to your local dealer and also cover two weeks of insurance while you're over there. If you plan on staying longer than two weeks, EU countries also start to get picky about you obtaining a temporary license too.

You GUARANTEE it will not happen? Really? How the hell can you do that?

I placed my order for my E90 330i less than a week after they were on dealer lots in May of 2005 and I could drive one. It was not done ED, it came out of dealer allocation, and I bought the car for something between $700 and $850 over invoice (don't remember the exact figure).

Were there also dealers not giving any discounts back then? Sure! I even saw BMW of Concord doing mark-UPS on the cars they had at the lot the first week.

I don't see why the buying an F30 will be any different this time around. You can shop around and get a decent price on a 3 series. This is not some rare Lamborghini you're buying here.

What really blows my mind is if my dealer will ask for msrp on a car i plan on ordering...i have bought 6+ cars from them before so i dont think it will be an issue. Thankfully there are a few dealers in the area.

I too am planning on purchasing one of the new F30 BMW 328i or 335i (probably need to drive the 328i to see if I can live with it on a daily basis).

As a practical note with all vehicles I've purchased in the past, dealers make money even with selling you the vehicle at invoice, as there are other things which they get from the manufacturer (i.e., holdbacks) through which they make money. They also make money on the different insurances they sell you, and also typically from giving you financing through their captive bank. All in all, while a business is about making money, there is a very distinct difference between making a reasonable amount and completely raping the consumer.

My last Infiniti M37 was ordered, and I paid $500 over invoice. I just got a 2012 A6 which was offered to me for $1000 over invoice (later dropped to $500 as I was walking out of the dealer).

Granted, if the supply is low and demand is high, the dealer has the upper hand, but I don't expect that to last for very long. The 3-series is not an "exclusive" car. It's actually common as hell in Miami. I play a game in the morning on my way to work in rush hour traffic which is called "spot the bimmer". As you may have guessed, I count the number of bimmers I see on my way to work... 38 is a record on a 16 mile (35 minute) commute!!

So give it 1-2 months and they'll have so much stock that you'll be able to take your pick, at or very close to invoice. And no, I don't feel bad for the salesman's kids/family! Screw them, I have a family to look after too (I told that to the Audi guy).

You pay the $875 destination fee (shipping charge) whether you go ED or buy a car off the lot. So no, they don't add an extra shipping fee to do ED.

I wonder if you order during the last week of the calendar year if the dealer will be any more likely to sell at a discount?

Many dealers like to sell as many cars by year end as possible. If you said, I"ll be glad to order a certain car at $x over invoice, if you might get them to agree to it but only if you walk in or call during the last 5 or so days of the year.

Of course, competition is king whereby you go to the next dealer if they say no. If you are shopping in an area like LA or Atlanta where there are at least 6 dealers or more, you probably have a decent shot at getting one to say okay.

Anyone remember how long it took for the E90s to get down into the $500-1000 over invoice range?

Uhhhh, do you even read the thread before you post?

Just depends on the dealers in your area. The more the better.
