F82 mirrors, trunk, armrest, knee rest

busy weekend here

happy to answer any questions on the below.

All mods are bolt-on, and are are ultra easy DIY.

The trunk adds a modicum of difficulty, as has been explained elsewhere. (The f32 inner taillights do not fit properly. you need the f82 taillights, they are a different part number. Also, the clips that hold the wiring harness to the trunk do not fit. I need to order these separately, i'd imagine there's an f82 specific part number, as they detach from the plugs. The roundel and associated grommets are also different. One should also really order the proper trunk springs - tension on the f32 springs is too high. next on my list. Also, be aware that the trunk does not fit perfectly; keep your OCD in check. )

The knee brace is actually sakhir orange. It's a 90% color match to coral red, in most lighting conditions. Only in ultra bright direct sunlight would one notice it's orange thread vs. red.

I'm evaluating spoilers - i'm liking the 3d design reps i've seen on eBay, but $300 for a replica seems a bit crazy. The M tax is in full effect for the spoilers i've seen - some of the nicer ones are >$1000. sigh.

on to the pics:

sliding armrest (i had this done previously, i have a diy in the archives somewhere)

knee brace

mirrors (100% bolt on)

trunk (note to the purists: no m badge. 'scuse the m perf license frame, my car is an m perf, and i don't feel guilty about that

How easy is the knee pad to fit? Any drilling? I'd like to add one to mine!

All mods look cracking!

Very nice! Sounds like mirrors weren't too hard to swap. Any tips or tricks?

Thanks!

Literally a 5 minute job. The knee brace can't be bought separately, only as part of the console surround, so it's just a matter of disassembling, removing, and reassembling with the new piece.

None necessary! Take the door panels off, remove the tweeter pods, unscrew the 3 torx bolts, and put the new ones on. Nothing else entailed!

Nice ride, but this is giving me a serious flashback. Were you on audiworld waaaay back in the B5 days? I'm having memories of your user name. . . . I think maybe I bought an Oettinger grille and Hagus mirrors in brilliant black from you? Small world if you love German cars I guess.

I would get the rear diffuser painted in white to match the front lip and leave the middle black, love the car either way! Great Job!

Haha, nice. Yeah was probably '01 or '02. I miss that board.

How do you like that M Perf shift knob? I've been considering some interior mods but I don't want to lose the stock shift knob, nice and chunky and just classic BMW.

Ditto. I've been on many since, and aw (as it was then) was one of the best ever.

Im in the minority that actually hates the stock shift knob - even the stock zhp knob on my car felt too tall and sloppy. The shorter m perf knob somehow makes the gearbox feel markedly more mechanical. You're right, it's not chunky enough - wish it were about 30 percent bigger, but it's still far better than the zhp, imo.

I'd actually love a weighted spherical knob like I've always had in my other cars (like the Craven speed one I have in my abarth now,) but there's an article kicking around about weighted knobs being terrible for BMW gearboxes, so I've abstained.

Yeah I've never found another board quite like AW.

That's very interesting. Generally the awesomeness of the zhp knob seems like an established part of BMW lore. My 340i isn't here yet, so I'll have an open mind.

Do you have an M Perf steering wheel? I've also been a little hesitant there, since the leather m sport wheel is similarly chunky, mine will be heated, and I don't know if Alcantara would get nasty if you are touching it constantly like on a steering wheel.

Lookin' good! I prefer the subtle, small lip oem spoiler to taller ones that stand out more.
