How does dealer/BMWNA recover engine parameters, only when a code?
charge pipe cracked and popped off. dealer ran data and called to let me know there was an over-boost occurrence. they want to deduce a tune was present from this.
can they only pull data from the code incident that was thrown? (drivetrain malfunction when pipe went) Meaning, if codes are deleted, are they still able to download parameter data to see max boost etc? If no, then one would want to delete all codes prior to bringing in for repair, correct?

Best thing to do is get an ER CP and be done with it. This is why with a tune it is always better to upgrade and avoid the inevitable. As for your question, I have heard they can pull parameters if need be.

what was interesting to me is that the SA said he's never seen or heard of this failure.
whether one is purely ignorant of their livelihood, or pretending to be ignorant are both equally amusing and entertaining to me. if I wasn't knowledgeable in my career I would be quickly replaced, but somehow in the auto industry it's widely accepted.

My SA told me the same thing when I took my car in to have the CP replaced. I told them I was beating on it and heard it pop. They didn't ask any questions and replaced it under warranty. I showed them the threads on here showing they cracked on cars with out tuners.
Haven't had an issue since, although I have a metal CP. |

Yeah they can pull it from the DME. It's in the fault history. You can delete it from ISTA/D+ not sure if it puts it outta reach of the dealers methods, but probably does.
