wma lossless in F30?
Ive been trying to play wma lossless audio that I ripped using Zune, but it's not working. It works in my 2010 M3. Does it have to do with the lack of navigation or maybe I need to do a software update?
Anyone have any insight? |

Music files were ripped from CD in WMP in Lossless WMA format. I coped my library to USB, then imported from USB to the CIC HDD.
Some files BMW sees, but does not play. It skips them. Media rights are not set for them. They do have a bit rate of >1 Mbps. Other lossless WMA files play fine. In the printed F30 Navigation/Entertainment manual (p. 51, top/right), BMW states that playback cannot be guaranteed for bit rates >256 kbit/s. This sux BIG TIME if I have to batch transcode al lmy files to 256 kbit/s!!! I can find no other mention of bit rate requirements in the manual(s).

Some work, some don't. Lossles bit rates don't seem to play reliably.

Do the problematic songs play straight from the portable drive if you plug in at the arm rest?
If not, try removing any metadata (tags) that you don't need. |

Lossless WMAs play from USB, not from HDD
OK, so I discovered something that may have been indicated in other threads.
I did a head-head test. Put Lossless WMA albums on a USB thumb drive. Most files have bit rates > 1 Mb/s. For reference I placed a few non-lossless files, too. (1) played music from USB (arm rest). Result: every file played, album art showed on some albums, some artist info missing. (2) imported from same exact USB drive into BMW (glove box port). Result: **NO** lossless files played, lossy files did play, no album art showed. Note that the files that did not play were listed, but were just skipped. BMW uses a different codec for playing USB files that it does from HDD files??? I wonder if a software patch can fix this.
