Another one you might want to code is to get the car to remember your last climate control settings. |

Hi Shawn,
Could you send a link to the software please. My car doesn't arrive until the start of next month but I've already bought a cable so I can turn the ASS memory on. Thanks. |

OK - I've finally got around to this....
I've made my own ESYS cable as per the instructions on here. When I connect my cable to the OBD port, I never get an IP address from the car. I presume this should just work and there's no need for any particular drivers to be installed on the laptop (eg should just see the ESYS cable as a network cable?). |

You won't get an IP address from the car as the car has no DHCP server. You will get a random address on the reserved private address range: something beginning 169.254.x.x.
It can take up to a minute for your laptop to drop its normal IP address and use this address. You need to make sure WiFi is off if you're in range of your normal WiFi, otherwise your laptop will just connect to it. You need to make sure the wired network adapter is enabled You need to make sure the wired network adapter is set to "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" You need to make sure Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) is not switched off (you can run with WiFI on of course, but I'm making it simple...)

Ah - so it's expected to get an APIPA address? The guide I was reading showed the ZGW_Search.exe returning a 10.x.x.x address...
I'll try it again now as I was expecting an assigned IP address... |

No it will get an APIPA address.
As Shaun correctly said, it is perfectly possible to have WiFi and wired simultaneously and on different address ranges but not knowing your IT knowledge it is sometime conceptually easier to have WiFi off so you exactly where you are!

"*NOTE: The car does NOT have a DHCP server, so it does NOT assign an IP Address to the computer. Both the computer and the car will go into DHCP fallback mode, each assigning themselves a random Class-B IP Address so that they can talk to each other. This can take up to 60 seconds, so you have to wait until the PC has an IP address before you try to connect). Class-B IP Address range is from 128.0.0.0 to 191.255.255.255. Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) is a network client-side process used as a fall-back position when DHCP services are not available on the network but the client devices are configured to use DHCP for their IP address configuration. APIPA allows the client device to randomly choose one of the 65,534 addresses available in the Class B network address of 169.254.0.0/16."

OK that worked.
I changed to 6NS but I can't see any difference in functionality? If I edit my iPhone device under Bluetooth, the only services it lists is Telephone? I closed Esys down, opened it back up and read from the car and it show 6NS so it appears to have been coded? |

Sorry just read the guide. It sounds like you have done the VO coding correctly. If you have an apple device try playing back music via the apple cable. If it plays then your EBT is working.
