Harm the paint?

Had a quick question, will scotch tape harm car paint or leave any residue?

You shouldn't put scotch tape on the exterior of your car. Yes it could cause harm when it gets hot. May leave residue.

Best to use auto painting tape.

Why is tape going on the car?

Leaving any adhesive on paint for a long period of time can harm the clear coat. From experience, I have seen the blue and green 3m painters tape eat into clear from being left on to long. However, you can fix it by polishing if you must apply it and leave it for a long period of time.

Not to sound like a flame, but may I ask why you want to put scotch tape on the paint work?

There is no reason to use scotch tape on a car for any reason. Hit up an auto parts store or any auto body paint supply store and get some good 3M masking tape. Heck you can order it from Amazon with free shipping. It's not that expensive and is designed for the purpose of temporary application to auto finishes.

I don't advise using scotch tape but I'm assuming the purpose is for whilst polishing, I'm guessing a couple of hours?

So are people saying that within a few hours, scotch tape is going to damage your paint? Is (Bmw) paint really that delicate?

I won't even use the brush at a car wash, let alone put scotch tape on the car. I may just be paranoid lol.

Don't try to throw BMW under the bus. No auto paint or clear coat can take scotch tape. There is a reason why they make auto paint tape and it wasn't made just for BMWs "delicate" paint.
