Second, to those speculating the doors did not "fly off". They were cut off as well as the roof by the emergency responders. It's common practice to get to the occupants of a vehicle. Also, there is nothing wrong with BMW pillars. There is not a car currently made that would withstand the amount of energy absorbed in this crash without massive damage. Nor is there a human body that can absorb it.
Being a firefighter myself its actually kind of sad to see these pictures because I know what this person looked like. This is essentially a death scene and unfortunate that its being pasted on the Internet. You probably wouldn't want your mom or dads moment of death pictured for the unwashed masses to speculate over. Disrespectful to the dead.
Peace to his family in the difficult years ahead.
I know exactly what you are saying. EMT-A over here.

I could understand that but what I witness here is that some truckers out there seem to do what they please because they drive a bigger truck, like there is no reason to switch lanes constantly especially to the left (our fastest lane) if that lane is used to speed/pass everyone by other drivers.

I agree.

Jason, I know you like the page views, but this should be removed. It only adds negative energy to people's lives by seeing it and is not respectful of the dead.

Going through this thread, it appears many members share this view so you may want to consider deleting this thread or at least removing it from the home page.

I'd don't believe he is doing this for page views. I know of at least two other times in the past three years or so where he put stuff like this out there with a warning for folks to be careful since these things are only cars. One was about two years ago. With an M3 forum member who wrapped his E90 M3 around a tree on the way back from a late night outing. The other I believe was a teenager out somewhere with his dads M5 and some friends. He had also been active on the forum.

Extremely sad day for the driver and his family. thoughts and prayers go out to them. IMHO this is the only convo that should be occuring. Really nothing else matters when someone dies. The death itself is tragic, and deserves to be the focus. Very sad that a human being is dead.

Wow!! I haven't seen a bad accident like that in a while.

R.I.P and my condolences to his family...let this serve as a reminder that we should all drive safely and carefully.

Because some sections of the Autobahn do NOT have any speed limits, and people regularly use it to go as fast as possible. It's not unusual, or unexpected. To validate a design, you need to drive in all normal situations, and that is one of them. What is unexpected is for a truck to cut someone off...to get a license in Germany takes a lot of money, lots of training, and a far greater level of skill than in the USA. There could easily be 100mph difference in the truck speed verses faster cars (trucks DO have speed limits on those roads, quite slow, actually, and it is enforced). Still, accidents happen. Driving in Germany is not a passive activity - you must be aware of what's going on, and you hope the other drivers are as well. It all works if people abide by the rules.

Can someone please explain to me how this happened though??? I don't get it. Accident is in the right lane ... and so far right that the BMW is on the shoulder (almost as though the truck was intentionally trying to block the driver).

Should I assume the truck was in the far left lane and continued to changed lanes into the right lane... only to cut off the driver (who was clearly driving very fast)???

Hiding stories and images like this is counter-productive.

This should serve a reminder to all that roads are dangerous.

Car mfgs need a reminder.
Fast drivers...
Truck drivers...

If you travel at a speed that can result in this kind of accident, you waive your so-called right to privacy.

Decency dictates that judgements aren't made on involved individuals until the facts are known, but hiding facts and images isn't helpful for anyone.

Speed kills, and when at speed its double fold, not only your reaction is at its limits but the action & reaction of other drivers around you that you must be aware of which leave you little room for errors.

You can be the best test driver in the world but at speed there is little that one can do.

I had a car pull out in front of me on a limited Autobaun when I was on my Suzuki motorbike some 30 years ago, laid the bike down and slid down the hwy until my elbows wore thru my leathers.

High speed accidents hit you within seconds, and once they have started you become the passenger not the driver!

Unhappy

Jason, although the pictures are very hard to watch/look at...

I think it serves us all a purpose, to remind us still how fragile our lives are...
and no matter how much better modern cars have gotten,

it is still not at a level where we are as bubble wrapped as we are thinking...

At least for me, it reminds me and now in my head to slow down...

our bmws are addictive, give us confidence... but confidence certainly does not protect us in those cases...

am i getting old or what ??
but i should... i really should watch out

Dont risk it people, sometimes it's just not worth it... especially on surface urban city streets where it's very narrow.. even at 45mph, it can be deadly for pedetrians...

I say leave those photos there, or at least warn people of the strong graphic content...

I want to look at those photos again... but i scared ...

+1 this made me rethink about the way I drive recklessly at times on the freeway. Definitely a bit of a wake up call and sad reminder.
