show off your winter wheels

Im still deciding what wheel and tire combo to get for winter so I'm hoping there are some others out there who have already made the decision. Please show your wheels and provide your tire specs.

Not on the car yet, but these 18" rims and the Pirelli Sottozero IIs will replace the 19"s during the winter months. Rims were not overly expensive, were similar to the stock 403's, and allowed for the BMW caps. The combo came mounted, balanced, complete with TPM from Tirerack for about $1700.

agreed, was hoping to minimize that by having one thread. however, your wheels are really nice, they deserve their own thread

Just placed my order on TireRack.

18x8 Enkei Tuning Raijin Black Painted

225/45R18 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3

The Michelin's had better scores than the Blizzaks for dry driving conditions while still performing very well in light and deep snow. Here in Denver, it often snows hard, but by the time you're heading home from work, the roads are clear and dry.

With TPMS sensors and valve stems, it came to around $2,000.

Now does anyone have a good recommendation for BMW Center Caps that will fit these wheels?

Nice. I was going back and forth on the Alpins and the Sottozeros... both had pretty equal reviews for dry conditions, but the Pirellis got better marks in the winter conditions. Same situation here.. roads are generally cleaned up pretty quickly after a weather event. I did not want an all black wheel.. just personal preference, and the Elbrus had the option for the BMW caps and they looked similar to the 403's so I went that route. $1750 out the door and no shipping because Tirerack is here in my back yard so I could pick them up myself. $50 rebate on the Pirellis takes it to $1700. Can't complain at all... and if something bad happens to a wheel during the winter, minimal cost to replace. The car easily recognized the new TPM and I was good to go right away.

I was going to ask you how it went before I ordered - did you just go and reset the TPMS system and let it connect?

I'm still torn re: getting 17 vs 18 rims...I don't want to limit my future Brake purchases because of this.

I was wondering about the TPMS being recognized. I thought I'd have to go by the dealer to get it synced.

So you were able to order the BMW center cap with the wheel from TireRack? Man, now I really hope I can find one that fits the Enkei wheels.

I hear ya too on the black. I just figured it would be nice to change the whole look of the car for 5 months out of the year by doing something so simple. ANd I do like the look of the Black wheel on the EBII. Black wheels on a black body are a bit too much for me though.

The car actually recognized the new TPM... the screen gave the option to Reset or Cancel and told me I could only reset at a full stop. I pulled over, the RESET option then became available, and after accepting that option, it said the TPM would set in about 10 minutes after I started driving... as soon as I started moving, the tires on the screen turned GREEN, and that was it!

I went with the 18's. I'm not going to drive in heavy snow, and I did not want that small of a wheel/profile.

Se my last post on the TPM. As for the caps, when selecting the wheels, the Optional Hardware tab shows the replacement caps for the wheels, and for the Elbrus, the BMW caps were an option.. for $15 ea.

+1

I got our Rial Salerno set precisely because they can accept BMW caps. Being that Rial is an OEM supplier to BMW, you know the wheels are well made too.

Do the OEM caps also fit the Elbrus I08's? That's what I just got, I didn't bother ordering the caps if the OEM ones fit.

Wish I would've got them yesterday, about 1" of slush on the ground here. Surprisingly in Eco Pro even with the 19's and the Goodyear F1's the car wasn't as scary as I expected.

Rick is there a way you can post larger pics of your setup? I am thinking of going the same route. Did you go with the 210 or 240 Sottozeros? RFT? thx
