New 340 with MPPSK 6SP FAILURE!

I bought a new 340i from my local dealership because it was just such a good deal. Its a 340i with mppsk, with a 13k discount and 3k of positive trade on my 2015 335. I bought it with 200 mile, just clicked 1100. The six gear keeps pooping out while cruising. Took it to the dealer, and they replicated the problem right away on the highway. They told me it looks like it needs a new tranny, REALLY! This is my 7th car from this dealer, and my brother liked it so much, he bought the same car, but auto. Any advice???

I'm sure it will, but this is a brand new car.

It's just a defective tranny. Some cars come off the assembly line with major defects. It's not the norm, but it happens. Better to find out sooner than later.

Shit happens. Get a new transmission and don't worry about it.

Echoing previous comments. Cars are made of parts and complex parts can be defective, like any other complex product. You will quickly forget this experience after the transmission has been replaced.

We don't hear from all the folks with no problems but there is a Thread from last October about synchro issues some were having with the 6mt, here is a link. Best of luck OP!

Good luck with the repairs. How did you get a 13k discount?

There are issues with the second gear synchro, but I don't think I've ever heard of issues in sixth. It's probably just a fluke. Or given the fact your car had 200 miles, maybe it was a demo car or something. Was it considered a brand new car or a used car?

Yeah, damn, that's the real item to discuss in the thread. That and +3k on the trade in? Whats, that, like 10k out of pocket for the swap? Insane...

Yea, thanks for all the replies. The discount was given I guess due to the fact it was manual, and this was my 7th car from this dealer. My brother actually got a better deal on his auto, it had 2300 miles, mppsk and the 20in m performance wheels, and they took 18k off of msrp, now this is msrp, what was on the factory printed sticker, not a dealer addendum mark up tag. Both of the cars were new, his was a demo that was in service, so I'm sure that was why the discount was so high. With mine only having 200 miles, I'm sure someone was driving it, maybe couldn't get the deal approved, but it was new, We both got .9 for 72. Now, update from the dealer, looks like they will be replacing the tranny, they have whats called a puma case? Not sure if I'm saying that correctly, but there is a notice of the 6 speeds having issues with the six gear, per my service advisor. I'm not sure that I am willing to take the trans swap, and I am looking at other options. We are just in the beginning stages of trying to figure out what is best for both of us, the dealer and I.

Well, technically, don't I have a new transmission already, I mean its 1200 miles. I hear what your saying, and I have already agreed. Ordering from Germany, will be a few weeks. Thing is, I haven't even made a payment yet on my new car. I'm gonna be paying for a x1 loaner for three to four weeks!

I understand what your saying, I'd be bummed too.

I had a dealership scratch my trunk paint down to sheet metal and had my car gone over a month for them to fix. It was right after I got it and it was in for its first oil change and to replace the spoiler which was coming unglued. But I was jamming around in an X1 and actually had a bit of fun.

You're baby will be back to you better than ever

Ask your dealer for something worth 1 month's car payment if you're that upset about it. Window tint for example. Worst that happens is they say no and you still get a new transmission.

Yea, I know its not the dealers fault, so I will ask what can they do. I'll most likely call BMW financial, explain whats going on, and see what they offer.

I'm gonna echo what Al Bundy said.. Maybe ask the dealer for something, some trinket, tint, all weather mats, BMW watch some BMW swag, etc. Doubt BMWFS will do anything about paying for a car "not being used"..
