Apple Store

Had to go into my local Apple Store this morning, as my iphone 5 did not charge up during the night. (15 months old)
The store was busy with customers and about a dozen staff milling around.
I was shown to the salesman holding an ipad to book me.
The earliest they could attend to my prob was 6 days time, Sunday.
So I have a duff iphone for 6 days!
The reps there, do plenty of selling but customer care? Forget it, they didn't want to know and couldn't care less.
The mighty Apple Corporation! What a load of rubbish!
Even PC World can do better than this!

Try raking out the cable hole at the bottom with a tooth pick or something small like that, it fills with crap and stops the cable from seating properly.

It happened to mine and I thought it was curtains for the phone after the cable tested ok, but after a clean out all was well.

This is likely a result of mass hysteria over new phone launch - by product of annual release media hype I am afraid.

I know a few people who have had issues just after warranty expiry which needed replacements and they had luck with Apple, I think you can normally get a free replacement or one very cheaply so bear with them and be amicable when you eventually do get through and I'm sure they will sort you out

If you had purchased one of the lesser makes this would be all your problem now

Still, I'd be pissed off at 6 day wait! You think they would retain some drop-in-and-see function

couple of months ago Apple recalled quite a few iPhone 5's (not 5s) for faulty batteries, I believe there is somewhere you can check if your phone falls under that category..

Also, have you tried connecting your phone to power, and pressing and holding Home Button & Lock Button at the same time?

Just to put the opposite side always had excellent customer service from apple. When my iphone was faulty they simply replaced it, cpw would have had to send it away. You can also look on line to see if there are earlier appointments at any other stores near you.

I really don't get what you are moaning about

They have a lot of products, so you need to be booked in

Once booked you get your fix within the hour, for free if within warranty

If you took your 8 month product anywhere else, they would post it off to the manufacturer, a lot longer

Just buy apple products from John Lewis instead of the Apple Store. Same price but better service!

The thing I don’t like about Apple is that if you have a faulty product (that could even be a day old), they will only repair it or replace it with a refurbished item!!!!
I bought an ipad from an Amazon 3rd party seller last year (turns out it came from China). I opened it and it had a spec on the screen that could not be removed. It was actually under the glass. At one day old I rang up an Apple store and they wanted to repair it or give me a refurnished one!!! WTF!! It had a fault from the minute the seal was took off and they would not swap it for another brand new one! Outrageous!!!!

In my case I got Amazon involved who made the seller give me my money back and I bought one from Tesco’s.

how is it outrageous?

do you people understand simple business models.

you didn't buy direct from Apple

if you bought direct from Apple then you have 14 days refund/replace policy with new

Apple are the manufacturer, if you had a problem with your Samsung product will they give you a new one? no

your issue was with the reseller

TBH I've always found Apple's customer care to be excellent. Have been in twice with issues with my iPhone and as both times it was within the year manufacturer's warranty it was replaced immediately both times, old phone backed up and installed on to new one with no questions asked or attempts to wriggle out of anything. Had to book an appointment the second time as they were busy but no different to taking a car to the garage with an issue and them having a quick look then booking you in?

Before people attack me for being an apple fan

I just checked, Milton Keynes have appointments for iPhone repair on Wednesday

if you live in London , the population is too great to expect 2 day availability

what other manufacturer will repair in store in 2 Days?

I recently had my MacBook Air battery replaced for free under warranty , they even gave me a 500gb USB hard drive for free just as goodwill gesture

all I'm saying is; appreciate the process and don't have a hissy fit

hate Apple products but I have to admit - customer care is brilliant. in most cases , they will replace the product within few days. Who else can offer that? You should try to deal with network equipment manufacturers like Cisco or Juniper. You are paying thousands of pounds for hardware and they cannot be bothered!!!

My experience of Apple Customer Service has been excellent also.

I live a minimum of 2 hours and 100 miles from an Apple Store. A Stormfront is an hour away... So, rang up Apple customer services and they sent out a replacement iPhone by courier and collected the faulty item. I paid for the 24h service. Much cheaper than a drive to a 'big city' and my wife's subsequent shopping spree... A £700 hold was on my credit card until they confirmed it was faulty and not broken.

Also, I'm happy with Apple at the moment. They pulled a 'Scottie' with my iPhone 6. I was a little slow off the mark and the expected delivery was 28/9 to 2/10... Turned up on 20/9.

I'm maybe a bit of an Apple fan. We've many Apple toys around the house. But, they mostly just work, unless you drop them. Even my non-tecky wife gets things to work with no stress.

If you follow their system of booking in, it is excellent. I have, 9 times out of 10, walked away satisfied with the "fixing" of my item or with a new item after a genius appointment. Replacements are usually as heavily discounted as they can too. They book it through as the cheapest fault they can pin it to.

Thanks for all your comments guys which I appreciate.
I did check the power-in socket and it was clear of bits etc.
Am sure that Apple Store is good in allsorts of areas but the fact is the Apple Store I visited had a lot of sales reps milling about chatting up punters to buy, something like 12/15 men, but obviously very short of technical staff in the back room to repair/service.
To my mind it is so pathetic that an organisation like Apple should concentration so obviously on selling but so lacking in servicing their products.
Face the fact, if it takes 6 days just to examine my iphone how reliable are Apple products? They must have a big backlog!
The truce, will it ever be known?

You're so misinformed on so many levels it's hilarious

You live in London (according to your bio)

There's appointments available in Covent Garden on Thursday for the population of London a 3 day wait is acceptable

They do appointment only as it's the best for everyone concerned

Bare in mind this is a warranty fix not 14 day return

Usually a company would have to post it away

Apple are notorious for being hands off, you can walk in and spend an hour at a,macbook no one will bother you

I just think you just need to adjust your expectation management
