328i Oil

Um, what type of oil should I get for my engine?

I didn't get a free litre of specific oil in my 328i like I did in my E90 330d, so I'm unsure!

but also more expensive... I guess if they recommend it, it's better to stick to it ?

Looking at my engine, all BMW say is that they recommend Castrol.

Of course they do- they have a corporate partnership with Castrol. Not that Castrol isn't good, it's very good, but Mobil synthetic is also very good. Go with what makes you comfortable.

The manual suggest SAE 0W-40, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-40,
and SAE 5W-30

My personal preference is Mobil 1 0W30

BTW, listen to what Castrol web site recommends for 2012 328i

"Thank you for inquiring about what oil is best for your vehicle. Based on the information you provided, your vehicle requires a special engine oil that can only be purchased at your local dealer. Please visit your local dealer to ensure that your vehicle is serviced properly."
