FYI BMW Extends Factory Warrenty on TC
I just got a letter from BMW stating my factory warranty will be extended on the timing chain to 7ys/70,000 miles from vehicle's in-service date.
I bought mine uses, and it has 36,000 miles on it, where do I find the in-service date? Also, how likely would a dealer be to "diagnose" this and fix it before it becomes an issue? I have a 2013

For lack of a documented in-service date they'd go with the delivery date to the original dealer from the VIN, though they should be able to trace the in-service date from the VIN as well. Chances of the dealer fixing it before it breaks are very slim, they'd normally only do that if it's a recall. Keep your ears peeled for the telltale whine, that's about the only way to anticipate it's about to go and get the dealer to take corrective action first.

Search N20 timing chain. It's a well documented problem. Hard to imagine anyone here not having seen one of the many threads about it, actually. For instance:
