335i fuel

So I use she'll v power nitro or Petro Canada 91 as there 2 closest to my house. On the filler cap it says 91 recommended and max 10% ethanol. Is this same for other vehicles. So according to Petro Canada website there ultra 94 has max 10% ethanol. So would this be ok for my car or should I stick with the 91. I'm a few weeks/months from getting a jb4 with catless downpipe. Would the 94 with 10% ethanol be better to run then it should I stick to 91. Just wanted some feedback as a product advisor from burger tuning said with the jb4 I should stick to using 91. Are our engines quite fuel sensitive

You're fine with any fuel that is at least 90% gasoline. All ethanol does is boost octane levels - it actually has less thermal energy than gasoline by a factor of roughly 30%. When the pump says it has a maximum of 10%, it means that it might have that much or it could have less of a percentage. I've run 93 octane here in the US with up to 10% ethanol for years with raised boost levels and never had an issue.

You can use 94 octane if you want, but you won't get anything beneficial out of it (just a lighter wallet). Save your money and use the 91 octane. And regardless of whether or not you use 91 or 94 octane, do not use any fuel with more than 10% ethanol.

Basically, do what the owner's manual (and fuel cap) tells you to do.

I used 94 Octane NO ETHANOL gas for close to the first year and never gained any milage benefit over the 93 Octane WITH Ethanol.

I run 91 and 30-40% ethanol (e85). Works great. And I feel lIke I'm helping out the corn farmers.

You got terrible advice. If your car is stock, you would see minimal gains from 91 to 94. With a Jb4, you would see a much bigger difference and should exclusively run 94.

Not sure who you spoke to at Burger but I don't think they would recommend using 91 instead of 94. The fuel requirements for both should be very similar. For higher boost levels you can run 100+ octane with no issue.

The lower octane you run, the more timing and boost will be pulled.

The only time fueling becomes an issue is when adding ethanol. Then engine will love more than 10% ethanol but the fuel pump is the weak link.

The JB4 will love 94+10%. An early dyno with mine just the JB4 & 94 produce 370whp. Octane - you don't need anymore than the car can use. Car will run quicker on 94 than 91. A dyno should show at about 12/15whp with just the gas swap over 91.

Our standard premium in NC is 93. Used to mix 93 & 100 to raise the number as the tune got more aggressive.

Logs of engine performance showed the effect of the change. Higher octane, no timing pulls, higher boost levels, no throttle reductions. MPG - had no real interest so I can't comment on it. It should be better due to running with more advance timing but a lot is the result of where & how you drive.

Probably no advantage in city stop & go. Should show up over the road at speed.

Thanks, I spoke with Aldo at burger tuning who's email is shown for product advise or something. So while stock as it know even tho has mppk I will carry on using 91 and when I get the jb4 and downpipe I will go to the 94.

Secondly I understand shell v power nitro has no ethanol so when I have the jb4 will it be better to use Petro Canada ultra 94 which has 10%ethanol rather then v power nitro
