My F30 is a hot car
Not in terms of looking good. We know the F30 looks hot. I'm talking about cabin temperature. Each of my previous 3 BMWs had sun/moonroofs. None have exhibited such warm cabin temperatures as the F30.
Today in Melbourne, the temperature on this overcast day, struggled to reach 18 a little earlier, yet the cabin temp was very warm when I had to make a quick trip a short time ago. The location where I keep my car during the day in my office has been exactly the same for the past 16 or so years. My E90 was never this warm. Even when driving on previous days, I have noticed how warm the cabin is. I have to put the a/c on in 20 degree days, even if I open the sunroof. Is anyone else experiencing a warmer than expected cabin in their F30?

Maybe a dumb question, but are your seat heaters on?
What about the airflow temp knobs for the AC vents. Check the center dash as well as the center console rear seat vents. Should be set to BLUE especially since you are in Summer season. |

Yeah, I've noticed it. Seems to be a lot of heat coming in through the slats at the front of the cover for the sunroof. Its good for natural light, but the thin space between the glass roof and the cover heats up like an oven. In previous cars this area was fully sealed, but now this hot air seems to make it's way into the cabin.
I'm thinking of covering it with some sort of reflective tape, but wondering if there's a more important reason for it being there, i.e. letting the heat out so the sunroof doesn't explode (this did happen in the e9x apparently).

I have gone from a white X1 to a black 3 so I can't really add much, apart from saying that whenever I open my boot on a half-warm day there is this gush of hot air coming out.
We have basically resorted to putting any cold grocery items like milk and ice-cream in the front. |

Really good thing about the 328i is the ac doesn't seem to have any effect on the car's performance, thanks to the turbos. The ac drained power from my previous cars, although not so much from the E90's engine.

At least it's not just me. Thanks. However, I very rarely closed the sunroof covers on my previous BMWs. Never had to except when it was going to be a very hot day. After 20 years of almost never closing the cover, I pretty much always forget to do so in my 328i.

Hmmm, it appears mine feels the same too.
When entering and seated in the car, even when it's garaged overnight (when temps aren't too high) or in carparks where the ambient temperatures aren't that high either, the inside cabin temp is quite warm. Not overbearing, but noticeably warmer that the outside ambient temp. The good thing is that the aircon is super chilled... I tend to have it set on 21-23 and only 1-2 bars of 'fan power', which seems to cool the car down quite quickly. I often have to turn the aircon really down or face it away cos it's a little too cold sometimes haha |

Something I'm seriously considering. Who did your F30? What was used?

My car is unbearably hot during the day when parked outside in the sun. The leather is super hot and I immediately start sweating buckets. Unfortunately I have no choice as my work doesn't have any enclosed parking lots. When parked in my garage it is fine. I haven't noticed it to be warm at all.
I haven't tinted any of my windows or sunroof, but I'm definitely going to do so!

Hi david, my F30 is definitely a lot hotter than my E90, my gf noticed it too especially before I had the windows tinted, but still much hotter than the E90 which has beige trim in Monaco blue, I think as another person said it's the holes in the sunroof lid, hot air escaping into cabin, we also noticed especially passenger side sun comes in much more, I'm wondering if tinting the already tinted sunroof will help...any suggestions?

No trend. Only band tinting at the top, from factory.

Hi,
in our F31 we can schedule with a timer in the i drive menu the fan to start and get the heat out of the car before you start your trip. It is also possible to start this menu via an apple app. Don't you have the feature in australia? Okay, I never used it till now, as we picked up the car in october and due to autumn and winter seasion there was no need till now.

Although not a BMW veteran I have also noticed the cold air continuing, often for 15 minutes after I have turned off the AC. Was worried it was a fault, but it seems it is another "feature" of the F30. The AC has certainly had a good workout over the last 4 days - I have also figured out how to turn on the circulation prior to starting a journey (only useful when I have a good idea of what time I will be back in the car). Also of limited use when the external temperature is 44 degrees - I suspect it works better with lower outside temps where the car has heated up due to sitting in the sun. The window tinting (thanks for the recommendation) has helped, but Phil was of the opinion that the amount of insulation in the F30 has been reduced, leading to hotter in-car temps.
