2014 328i Rear Trunk Lip Spoiler
So...after reading a couple of posts here I decided to buy the part (51192349678) with the intent of having it painted / installed at a body shop.
Finally got around to calling a body shop that a toronto-based bmw dealer outsources body work to, and the guy on the phone mentioned something about needing to drill holes?!?!??!?!! in my trunk to install the spoiler?!?! Drilling holes in my brand new car is a non starter for me....I was under the impression the trunk lip spoiler was just attached using some kind of 3M car tape?? What's this guy talking about? What were your experiences like? Can someone recommend me a body shop in the GTA? Thanks |

NO screws needed. Only 3M tape

ive seen some posts that cover this...doing it yourself...but is it as easy as they make it look? Is it literally just a matter of cleaning the area, positioning it properly and taping it on? is this sturdy enough?

Yup, it's that easy. I followed someone's advice and peeled just a bit of tape back, positioned the spoiler, and held it in place while I continued to peel the tape. This prevents you from misplacing it and having it stuck in the wrong position. Literally took just a few minutes. The key is to make sure you clean the surface. Mine has been on for a year now, no issues.

Yep...........no holes......no way. My shop just cleaned it, put down some chemical to help the tape stick more securely and 3M'd it down. Looks perfect!

Wash the car as you normally would and wipe the area where you will be sticking the spoiler with a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol/water just to get any wax/sealant off. I did not tape the spoiler down, but many people do. Not sure about how long before using a touchless car wash. I'd give it a good couple of weeks though.
