Sounds great. Hopefully it does indeed come to fruition and we get more official confirmation of this soon.

When a new S58 arrives, it will be very interesting to see what they do to increase output from the existing S55, including whether they can match or exceed power figures of the version in the M4 GTS. This, especially if they do not go the water-injection route.

The direct competitors to the X3M and X4M will be the GLC63 and GLC63 coupe, and we know those will be using the 4.0L M177 V8 with no less than 500hp in "S" trim. So, as with the M3/M4, they will be down one liter of displacement and will need to get creative - perhaps even more so in this case since performance SUVs tend to be more about brute strength than performance passenger cars - to provide compelling competition.

Next generation M3/M4 would be good candidates to debut an S58 assuming they stay with an I6 which I think is likely. Possibly the Z5/Z6 M too if they end up building those.
Based on BMW M's comments about the end of bespoke motors, I wouldn't be surprised if the X3 M and X4 M end up with the N55B30T0.

Not true. Not much I can say but the x3m and x4m will get a motorsport engine with a large increase in power over the s55.

It doesn't sound S55 ish though so maybe it's the X3 M40i

@Scott26 can you shed any info??

Half baked M?
Try to say that again when the half baked M finishes ahead of you on any track...

Colin hmm. Well I too am interested and intrigued in an X3M. When did an M car live or die by its interior though?

I understand you can't out your source, obviously, but can you tell us whether your source is inside the dealer network, BMW NA, or BMW GmbH?

Not just the interior Chris but if I wanted a car purely for the drive I'd buy an atom, all M cars are basically all rounders, and I want to feel special when I climb in, I want nice seats and special leather, when I wash the car I want to take in the details of my carbon roof and admire the bonnet bulges.

As you know I had my name on an M2 for 2 years before they were realised and was genuinely gutted when the leaks became facts. For me it's nowhere close to being special enough.

If we're going back to the days when BMW MOTORSPORT actually put engines in road cars, I'll take a P83 in mine

Oh I wish. Not that extreme but it will be an "s" series engine.
