I'd opt for a dipstick in addition to the combined oil function sensor.
+1 - it's just beyond my comprehension why they didn't keep the dipstick in addition to the electronic dipstick. Mind boggling.
If you got to round up, meet, and actually talk to the average luxury brand driver, I'm willing to bet you would side with BMW and say, yeah, let's forget this whole dipstick thing.

Just a FYI. Real BMW enthusiasts know that you should wait until your 1 unit (qt/liter) low on oil because oil begins to oxidize when you break the seal on the bottle. Adding less than one bottle means you're periodically adding oil that has already begun to oxidize.

*scarcasm*..maybe. maybe not.

Not if you are a seriously real bmw enthusiast. Then you top off the bmw and use the remainder for the lawn mower, door hinges, the old beater if there is one, and the rest into a hazmat drum.

ROFL. Could you imagine the arguments over using "real" synthetic for door hinges?
