But then again they may not. Follow the link I provided above and read lease return agreement.

It's 1/8"or 4/32.
My OEM S001's have a new tread depth of 10/32.
That's about 60% worn, 40% left and acceptable.

They just have to be above the worn/done indicator built into the tire tread.

BMW used to require that the tires were of the same speed rating as the OEM, but that was before they went to RFT's.
Now they require the tires to be RFT's.

I always get the sport pkg on the cars I lease, and since it's been 3 BMW's and 1 Audi, that has always been summer performance tires.

I live in a 4 seasons area and don't want snow tires.
So I always budget for a new set of the best AS perf tires I can get.
Around November I get the new AS tires, which easily last me to 30-34K miles I typically drive.
I then store the OEM tires and re-install when I return the car, which now has excellent near new tread life.

I spend the money and get the tires I want and I get to use them up.
BMW get's the OEM's back. All is well.

Well it IS true for the 135i and current 335i I have.
I don't know if the SUV's have different turn in rules or items, but I'm going with BMW requiring that the tries be of the same type as OEM.

If someone is not getting charged for not having RFT's, then either the person doing the inspection doesn't know what they are doing, or the dealer is willing to lie on the check sheet to keep the customer on a new sale.
There is a sheet they have to fill out and tire type and tread depth are listed, along with all the other things that need to be checked and noted.
That's how BMW decides if there will be any charges.

We are picking up our new 335i, shod with 225/45/18 all seasons, mid June. This is a purchase, not a lease.

Rather than purchase the BMW tire/wheel insurance, I plan to buy new Michelins or Contis DWS all seasons and sell the new RFTs at a deep discount to defray the cost of the new tires. I assume there must be a market out there for the RFTs?

Sorta reviving the thread I started way back.
So the deal is that I have to return the car back with rft.
I could get these cheap 4/32 Goodyear RFT and return the car and hope that they accept or would they accept a set of Pirelli Winter RFT still at 9/32? Read somewhere that they do not accept snow tires. Can anybody confirm that they much be AS tires.

Realistically speaking, if you are buying a new vehicle, it seems BMW is a bit more flexible. Returning the car with original wheels and tires from one of the 5 brands noted on BMW Canada's website, Michelin, Pirelli, etc. for the same speed rating, size, and type is likely to be fine. Thinking about Lan Li el-crapo Tonka Truck Plastic wheels for $19 for a set of 4 made from recycled diapers and party balloons, probably won't work . . .

As for the wheels, the originals need to go back. You can have a nick or two in a rim but if you curb rashed a quarter of wheel, get it fix or get a nasty surprise. If you live in the Toronto area I can recommend a fantastic shop that does rim repair for the dealers.

Keep in mind your OEMs are at least 3 years old so that will knock down the price, You still need to have something on the car so you need to buy some used tires too. Are you thinking you might make a couple hundred on the turn around? Balance that at having to run around looking at used tires and doing a tire swap.

What does your lease say? I'm pretty sure the language says something like they have to be "similar". Winter tires are not similar to A/S tires.

Slight change in topic from the winter tires (which I agree, they are very unlikely to accept, at least down here in the states).

I wonder if any of this changes now that you can spec non-RFT tires from the factory.

To further complicate this question, I have the Track Handling Package with the 442s but with RFTs (if I ordered the car I assume I could have spec'ed it with non-RFTs). My point is that I think you need to get the Track Handling Package to get non-RFTs from the factory, so would you have to have that package to return with non-RFTs.

It states that you must have at least 1/8" of tread left and if the car came with runflats on it when you leased it, it must be returned with runflats. So if your spec sheet on your lease states non-runflats you are good.

I had Pilot SS's put on my 550i Msport before it left the dealer lot. The Dunlops are stored and will go back on.

BMW will charge you $200/tire for non OEM's.

you can sell the highpriced RFT's take the hit at return and always roll on your preferred tire.

I bleed Bimmer blue but this is te stupidest thing. The M% runs on Pilots.

This is my second Msport. The '18 M550 has a 20" pilot non RFT option.

My stock conti rfts are pretty worn, day of Order dealer would have taken them but another month still till the car comes in. Told my CA I would be very disappointed if I got a charge for them... so want them to just make it go away. If not I am going to buy a set of used tires and throw them on...

Future strategy I am going for the performance tires stock and putting top of the line performance all seasons then swapping back the originals for turn in...

If you want get flats best to do it after break-in about 1500/2000 miles & store the RFT. If the get flats wear it will most likely be near the end of the lease so you can switch back to the RFT & not be out any extra cash over the life of the lease.

Actually is cheaper then replacing RFT with RFT if they are too warn for turn-in.

I am just about to replace my '19 M550 for a '22 in the next two months. As with my last 2 550I Msports I had the RFT's taken off before delivery and Michelin's put on. Tire Rack delivered to dealer. I kept the tires in the bags on a rack in my garage and will put them on with zero miles when I return the car. BMW is fine with a comparable brand change but not non RFT's if RFT's were on it at delivery.

It is aggravating that there is not an option out of non RFT's especially with the latest M550's that were more powerful than prior year M5's that came with non RFT's.
