Engine Bay Cleaning Results

Hey everyone,

Felt like I would share with you the results of cleaning the engine bay with some water, a microfibre cloth and Sonax Engine Lacquer. What I loved about this spray is it creates a protective layer over the parts I sprayed on, and it made the black really really stand out and become really hard to smudge.

Before:

After (This is exactly how it looks completely dry):

What I've done is basically with a microfibre cloth and some water, clean the engine bay from all that dust and dirt. Then I applied the Sonax spray and left the engine bay open for 20-25 minutes (I was in an underground parking lot) and then the black color stuck and stands out until today (It's been 2 weeks, and cars have been in use).

Just posting this in case anyone ever wondered about cleaning their engine bay.

This is a picture of the spray used:

No, since this is only to be applied on primarily plastic and hoses, also wires were really hard to reach with the spray, if you did it would be nothing. And if you did, it will probably disappear by the time it dries out. But it's totally worth it.

Any smell once the engine gets hot? What do you clean the metal parts with, like around the oil filter cover?

No smell whatsoever once the engine gets hot. The spray would have dried by then. I haven't applied anything onto the metal itself, but rather used some soapy water and a microfibre to clean them. I don't like testing anything out on the metal or applying anything on them given that they will get really hot.

Well done. Just taking 20 minutes every 3-4 months to clean the engine bay makes such a big difference. I haven't seen that Sonax product but it looks like you got great results.

I find P21S with a detail brush is a good option for cleaning the engine. I spray it on most of the engine and let it soak into for a few minutes. A little scrub and a minor rinse and the results are great.

After it has dried I use Chemical Guys black on black...sounds like a similar product to your Sonax. Great results.
