So for the F30 it looks like the cooling fans failing are the new HPFP from the e90 issue.
Appalling they would have a repeat of the e90 335 issues. THIS is why many are against turbo cars. Adds complexity and creates problems that just don't happen with a nice NA car. Especially with the M models I think turbo's are asking for trouble but we will see |

Looking to get into an M Sport 335i xDrive right about now, and am kind of really bummed to see that there are so many issues, and more importantly - from what it looks like - NO SOLUTION. Would hate to have a new car fail all the time.
Thanks to everyone on this thread for contributing and keeping them honest!

I disagree with you. Even if they can't find the problem at least it's documented for future warranty or settlement purposes. |

Update from dealer. They are replacing cooling fan. Surprise surprise. Even though I had no warning lights it still registered in ecu chip. They said if it happens again they will look into the relay as another source of problem.
So yes take your car into dealership even if no warning lights are on. For documentation purposes call them let them know what's happening. |

Thought I was crazy for hearing a loud fan noise before turning the car off a couple weeks ago. Didn't make much of it at first, but now knowing this is a common issue it has me a little concerned. It's been smooth sailing for me since the incident, so hopefully this is just something I can bring up the next time I take my car in for service.
Outside of monitoring oil temps and the obvious fan noise, are there any other telling signs that can confirm if I have a problem or not? And also...damn you BMW for not just giving us fog lights! |

Having limp mode issues with my 335 m sport as well, my symptoms are temp gauge staying at about 170, loud fan and no power.

Correct, production finished on 9/3/12, MY is 2013. I don't recall seeing anybody with 2013 production and limp mode, but I could be wrong.

Ohh I am sure they will pop up soon enough. Just got my car back all set they replaced cooling fan. Hopefully this is it but time will tell. Also had them reprogram my car to remember if I turned off auto stop feature and they fixed the stupid sport display to read correct US measurements in HP and lbs/ft torque. As for having the tpms readout only possible on European models. BS. Why do they get it and not us. Also where are my fog lights Munich. I know why the us market does not get them but still I want them.

Glad to hear, hopefully it won't happen. I have about double the amount of miles you have but have only gone into limp mode once and got cooling fan replaced. so far so good.

The problem, according to the BMW Field Rep working with my dealer, is the DME. I have a new DME on order from Germany. It is scheduled to be installed Monday. The funny thing is that the vessel (Tamerlane) carrying my new F30 M-Sport 335i is about to arrive at the port in Baltimore. I honestly think my new car will be delivered before my old one is fixed. What an unceremonious goodbye to my old F30.

This is just ridiculous!!!! After all the e90's and their problems, for cost alone I am shocked bmw did not absolutely ensure this would not happen. Imagine how much they lost in having to replace peoples HPFP multiple times, injectors multiple times and then the lost business from consumers who got fed up with the engines.
Those who ask why you would not want to have a turbo engine in the m3, well this is the answer. Nothing worse than on the track or on a road having fun, on a hot day and limp mode. I drive the piss out of my m3 in 100 degrees and simply runs like a champ. I am going to hate babying the next m3 to not go into limp. Definetly having second thoughts on going bmw turbo. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt to fix this issue in the F series cars but right out of the gates here we go |

This is my second Limp Mode. I have about 1500 miles on my 2013 335 M-Sport. November 2012 Build.
In the picture, I am flooring it. Pulled into my work parking lot and heard the fan blowing loudly. Same ole same ole. I will email my SA to get it down on the record, but I don't expect him to have any answers. I imagine I won't get a resolution until one of you posts a Tech Bulletin number I can reference and provide, much like reprogramming the ASS. I only hope this doesn't happen during the BMWCCA track day. That doesn't seem safe at all.
