black soot in exhaust pipe 07 335i
Occasionally see black smoke from right exhaust pipe, also with soot deposits in the same pipe. @$$#(0 mechanic said "its fine" but wouldnt that mean poor fuel/air mixture and/or bad injector? its not blue so I know its not oil. Guess I need a new mechanic.

Atomized carbon aka "soot" is a product of the incomplete burning of hydrocarbons. It's normal for any car.
It appears much more quickly in the right tailpipe because there is a butterfly valve in the left one. GT mod will get rid of this. |

Get use to it, turbo cars are more susceptible to this. I try and clean my tips weekly and they are never carbon free, doesnt help i have a heavy foot.

Polishing and waxing will help keep them clean. I usually wipe my tips with a microfiber towel every day in between washing to remove the minor buildup - doing this in combination with frequent waxing lessens the need for restorative polishing.
This thread has some good info on cleaning/polishing your chrome tips.
