Ha....I didnt see that till you wrote it but I can see how a person from NY would notice that right away.
My recommendation is don't ask for recommendations. I think the point is to come up with your own, that way you'll like it more. Is there something else you can work into it that doesn't include the model of the car...ppl will be able to look at the car and see the model of the car. Like is it just another car to you or is it more significant than that...cuz there could be some options there too. I have a 335i - I bought it as a 30th birthday gift to myself and we went and did european delivery, so my plate is EURDEL30. Originally was going to be ED30 until my wife spoke up and said people might think it means erectile dysfunction 30. Anyway, there's a ton of options if you're flexible |

The one I had on my '13... Trying to decide whether to transfer it to my '14 335, same color.

I completely disagree. Vanity plates are often picked up by people that care about their vehicles. To me, it screams enthusiast more than the two things you listed.
D-BAG: The people that assume D-BAG for vanity plates are the same people that assume D-BAG just cause you drive a BMW. I had plenty of people that tell me they wouldn't buy a BMW because it's a douche-mobile. KEY ME: Unfortunately, I had my car keyed before, and it didn't have a vanity plate. Are you admitting that you go around keying vehicles with vanity plates? I do hope you get caught and beat up for it one of these days. Lots of people will tell you to skip the vanity plates. I personally like them, but it does get people's attention. Only get it if you want the extra attention. Like people mentioned, you are more likely to get photographed. You are more likely to get tickets. And I guess you are more likely to get your car keyed by D-BAGs. |

How about the opposite: Every car has to have a license plate, might as well have something you like on it.
I don't see why someone would start a thread soliciting others for their opinions on what to get on a plate, but to each his/her own. Seems pretty narrowminded to project your view on others. FWIW, my BMW and my motorcycle have vanity plates, the Miata doesn't. *shrug* Then again, they're exceedingly common here in CA, so I don't think anyone here has your bizarre viewpoint about what they say about the owner. |

My "custom" plates on my F30 just have "Vietnam Veteran" along the bottom edge. I couldn't figure out how to get "old guys rule" in 7 characters (Texas plate limit).

I didn't want anything that was insulting to other cars because that makes you look like a dick. There is an old RS4 I see on the way to work sometimes that says "NICETRY" ....turbo douche.
Anyway, as I am a huge Pearl Jam fan and wanted something that was more about the free spirit & open road idea, I went with: GVN2FLI "Given to Fly" - One of my favorite PJ songs and goes well with driving spirit. I also considered "LONG RD" for their song "Long Road", but it had been flagged by the DMV as offensive....I guess they were thinking "Long Rod"....

Right, but here we are not repeating the model number. You are just driving (pun intended) it in to BMW marketing dept and the world that the 4 series is just a 3 series coupe. This idea would be even better for those planning to purchase the new M4 but hate BMW for having renamed M3 to M4.
