Winter wheel help, TPMS

Hoping someone can help me out, I am currently running an aftermarket wheel/tire setup and had used my oem TPMS sensors from my stock wheels. To avoid having to keep swapping the sensors I wanted to purchase new bmw sensors and use. Seemed simple enough but I was told by a tire shop that the sensors would need to be calibrated, so every time I swapped the wheel setup I would get a tire light unless I pay to have the sensors calibrated to the car. Made it appear that the car couldn't recognize two different sets of sensors.

Is this true? What's the best approach here I am not trying to ride around with the tire light and want to be able to separate the wheels/tires myself come spring.

Thanks!

I think the shop is trying to rip you off - it's easy enough to recalibrate the sensors after you install your new wheels/tires. It's done in the iDrive menu for TPMS...

Yeah not sure if they are talking about something special. But fill your tires to the proper pressure as measured by a pressure gauge. Then go into iDrive and reset the calibration. That's it.

You said the calibration was to avoid getting a light.. You will get the tire light every time you switch. But as others said, it's not a big deal to reset it. Not sure if what calibration they're talking about though. On tire rack, they tell you to do it through iDrive, no mention of any alternative...

That tire shop is wrong. The sensors are auto re-learn. with that in mind, it will be cheaper in the long run to just purchase a set of sensors and leave them mounted to the winter wheels, as opposed to the cost of dismounting tires for 2 sets twice a year.

Just switched summer to winter yesterday and I have two sets of sensors. Go into menu and click reset TPMS. Takes about 30 seconds maybe. They are trying to rip you off!
