Perhaps the exhaust sounds good on the outside. However, it's so boomy that it's near impossible to hear it.

Sorry, but adding this exhaust to the car was a definite overall negative. Perhaps other aftermarket exhausts are too. I can't comment on that.
To each is own.

I have had mine for almost a year. While initially it was a little boomy like others mentioned (even i mentioned the same somewhere), it is now quieter in the cabin, and sounds better outside (throatier) when compared to the sound right after install. Also, I recently installed a BMS stage 1, and i like the exhaust note even more. In sport, the sound is absolutely fantastic. I usually drive in DTC off mode, I don't have a single complaint!
I also would like to hear from others who have had theirs for a while.

I notice you only have a 328i option, any idea if this would fit on an F30 320i?
I've read somewhere that the mid-pipe might be smaller in diameter as compared to the 328i? Is that true in this case? Else, I'd really love to get one of these..

I have seen customers making it fit for the 320

I have had mine for maybe 2 months now. I think it sounds great. Just the amount of added sound that I was hoping for in an aftermarket exhaust.

In comfort mode, it gets boomy in the 1.75k-2k rpm range while under load. In any other range it sounds great. Sometimes I'm in the mood for the boomy-ness and love it. Sometimes I can't deal with it and drive in sport where that problem completely disappears.

To each their own as people have stated. If you are very scared of drone, maybe you should get a MPE and do a golf t mod.

EDIT: I actually have not even heard the sound from outside the car yet. Maybe I'll do that tonight.

Same issue in my 435 and it has to do with the tuning. The loudest mode oddly enough is eco mode. When I switch to sport its smooth with added cracks upon decel.

I've had my AA Axle-back on my 328 for just over a month ~1200 miles. I like it. It sounds very good on cold start, you can hear it easily in normal cruise. As ^ stated, it sounds the best in eco mode mine always rumble when I rev at 1.5-2k RPM, its very consistent.
Definitely worth the asking price. As for drone, I think it depends on the installation. Mine doesnt drone often. I'm happy with the product!

installation should have no bearing on the way the exhaust sounds unless it was installed so poorly that it is leaning against the chassis and resonating throughout the entire vehicle.

Andrew,

Will the axle-back exhaust weld on to a 2014 sportwagon?

I haven't had a chance to look underneath a sedan and measure the lengths of pipes to compare vs the sportwagon.

added: I forgot to mention I have Xdrive as well.

I have the 335/435 exhaust in my 428 and I experience this same boominess between 1500-2000rpm at 40mph, especially when under load like flinch up a hill. As long as I am above 2k or in sport mode there are no issues. Therefore I don't think this is a problem with the AS exhaust. I can't remember if I had this issue with the stock muffler.

Any pics of the black tips?

Also.... Help me understand this.

Active Autowerke (AXLE BACK)
9 RWHP, and 13 LB-FT of torque

DInan Free Flow Exhaust (AXLE BACK)
4 HP @ 6600 RPM, 3 FT-LB @ 6600 RPM (not sure if that is WHP or BHP)

AWE TUNING EXHAUST (MID-PIPE & AXLE BACK)
Max gains of 13 hp and 13 ft-lbs of torque at the crank

So how is it that AA Axle back is basically making more power than a full mid-pipe AWE system??

The stock mid pipe is not restrictive and we have a very free flowing rear exhaust muffler. I cant comment on their dyno as they are all different but, I personally dynoed this car and that's what it made. 9 whp is not a crazy number when you consider how restrictive the stock muffler is for a turbo car.
